The Treasure

When darkness roams inside your soul,
It finds a rip and makes a hole
And fills it full of misery
With woe and pain for company.
They dig their way down deeper for
The treasure promised at the core,
And when they find the heart within,
They take it out with giddy grins.
Woe tries to wriggle past the key
But gets caught in an artery
And snickers as it watches pain
Get twisted in a silver chain.
Then misery takes up the torch
And thinks that surely it can scorch
A heart already tinged with grief
But finds out to its disbelief
That somehow, something will not give
Another inch it won’t forgive,
A light was flickering deep inside,
With every pulse pushing aside
The darkness that would find its way
Into a heart it would decay
But found, instead, to its chagrin,
The den that hope had hid within.

    2. It’s not true look at Shel Silverstien!!!

      1. Shel Silverstein was a genius. I’ve just recently become acquainted with his works (I apparently lived under a rock most of my life) and am absolutely fascinated by his writing. There’s a huge disparity between his talent and mine, and I am not deluded enough not to know the difference.
