Petals of Death

Upon the waves
A darkness looms,
A flower dark
And evil blooms;
It feeds upon
The sins of man,
Fueled by their greed,
Because it can.
Its touch means death,
Though some escape,
A jellyfish
Of different shape;
It spreads its toxic
Petals round,
Tendrils seeking,
Gaining ground.
It glues itself
And suffocates,
So easily it
Confiscates
The lives of otters,
Seabirds too,
Some victims of
This flower’s spew.
Most humans know,
Some just don’t care,
So far away
From their own lair,
But every time
We turn our back,
It spreads its poison,
Spilling black.

  1. You’re not a fan of BP then.

    1. Boston Pizza, yes. Major oil companies that place profits over maintenance of corroding pipelines…no.

  5. Great work I love it. I see the reference to oil spoils and other disasters here. They all reach us down under on the news. With in seconds now a days. I am hurrying this morning as I have work and was in town all day yesterday with my sister helping her settle a bit more after her husband passing not so long ago…Boston Pizza wonder if I can find one of them here.

    1. That is very sad about your sister’s husband. I hope she is coping okay and that she settles in comfortably. I have no idea if there’s a Boston Pizza in Australia but wouldn’t hurt to check it out if there is. 🙂

  6. I love that you take a world problem and bring it to light in such an abstract, artistic way. It’s inspiring 🙂
