Cotton Candy Sky

Cotton candy princesses
Will dance up in the sky,
And cotton candy princes too,
Though some of them ask why
They have to dance up in the air
When they can see below
How people dance upon the ground
So freely to and fro
While they are chased around by wind
Who wants to play all day
And dances so excitedly –
He chases them away.

He steps on little toes and feet
And yips at cotton heels
And doesn’t know he trips them up
With every nip he deals.

So cotton candy girls and boys
Will flee in wispy streaks,
And wind will think how fun it is
To dance with such techniques.

And so they’ll run away from wind
Until they all turn pink,
And laughing they will go back home
As sun begins to sink.

When cotton candy princesses
And princes go to sleep,
Outside their door, the wind will dream
Of dancing with his sheep.  Copyright 2013 ยฉ Sonya Annita Song

  1. I have this very intense craving for cotton candy of a sudden. Your poetry brings out the child in us, Cubby. Nicely done. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Glad you enjoyed it Sahm. It’s so sad when an adult can no longer connect with their inner child.

  2. I want to be there. ๐Ÿ™‚ I would let the wind nip my heels for such a dance.x

    1. As long as you don’t mind wearing a big poofy cotton dress, I don’t see why not. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Quite win(d)some so this is what it’s all about…I’ll have to find a way to read this to my grandkids! Lovely.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it Bastet. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I love your creativity.

And so theyโ€™ll run away from wind
    Until they all turn pink,
And laughing they will go back home
    As sun begins to sink.
