I fell in love with tomorrow
And the promises it held.
All my dreams I let it borrow
From a past that had rebelled.
I knew that it would come one day
And courted it with hope and trust,
Where memories would go astray
And leave a lonely trail of dust.
Though blurry now, it’s hard to wait,
Still today I must push through,
But maybe it is not too late
To love the present too.
You have painted a very vivid image, despite the intangibility of the past/present/future. Great piece!
Many thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed it! π
Your welcome π
This one speaks to me, so calming π
I find rhymes to be calming for me. π
Outstanding piece. I love it (I can relate)
Ah, it is so hard when the future holds so much promise. π
Genius!!!
You are way too kind. I would be happy with intelligible. π
That would be insufficient!!!
Amazing, great job! How are you?
PS Thank you very much for liking http://gammagamification.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/is-summer-over-now/ π
I just ate a peanut butter cookie, so I’m pretty good right now. Glad you liked the poem. π
Peanut butter cookies are yum! So is this poem of yours! Love the line: From a past that had rebelled… and the last line is perfecto.
Peanut butter cookies are the only cookies I know how to make with 3 ingredients. Glad you liked the poem. π
This is brilliant!
Only because you think so. π
The value of “present” is beautifully presented π
Ah what a beautiful thing to say. Many kind thanks. π
Finishes with a flourish – this is great.
I’m glad you like it. π
I really like this – I can relate. The first stanza I found particularly powerful.
Thank you kindly. So glad you liked it and can relate to it. π
There is always tomorrow, it might just be the day all will get better.
Beautiful.
Or we can choose to focus on today and make it the best day possible that we can. π
It’s funny how much of our lives most of us waste regretting the past and yearning for the future while we give the present short shrift. You’ve described it so well, here…that human futility. I have, for 25 years, now, been working on the “one day at a time” mindset, often falling short, but a vast improvement, regardless. One of my favorite comparisons: Not living in the present is like going into a two-holer outhouse, sticking one foot in yesterday, one foot in tomorrow, and pissing all over today. Crude, but apt.
Amen to that. If I can’t find peace in my present, I certainly won’t find it in my past or future.
Lol I’ve never heard that comparison before, but it is very apt indeed. π
Meow! Now is a very good time
I’m glad you entered it into your rhyme
tomorrow is a pleasant place
except that you can never meet it face to face.
It’s the illusion of the past, alas,
that makes us want to repent and fast,
But in the here and now,
I think things are so much better to me somehow!
Now…you’ve got the peanut butter, and nutella is available, what can I send you to give you a special treat??? Ah! I’ve found a very good dark chocolate gelato that I can send you through cyberspace! Have a great Saturday! π
Nom nom nom…delicious! π I think all the virtual weight I’ve gained has somehow managed to translate into a couple of extra real pounds. I must start doing some virtual exercises. Love your poetic response! π
π ah, so I’ll be careful what to send you! Can’t have you becoming a Chubby Kitty now can we! Love your poetic offerings.
Very thought-provoking
Glad you thought so! π
Love this!! I just wrote a poem about past, present, and future, too. Kindred spirits! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Hugs sent your way.
Hope you are also having a great weekend! Loved your poem! Glad you enjoyed mine too. π
π I did. π
Maybe just love the present π
That would be good! π
From the very first line I just knew I was reading something special – this is a terrific piece!
I’m happy the rest of the poem didn’t disappoint. π
I have found that the future has its own way of sneaking up on me and it’s rarely what expected. Beautiful poem.
Yes, the future surprises us in many ways. Glad you liked the poem. π
Oh Cubby, I *really* love this! I am constantly torn between the past and future and painfully aware I lose the present of today every moment I’m somewhere else (as I expressed in my poem “Fleeting.”) This is a wonderful answer to that struggle. Exceptionally well done, as always. Thank you so much for sharing.
PS. I find rhymes calming, too, and enjoy the singular journey on which they take me when I write poetry.
Thanks again for sharing π

It is a daily struggle we face to balance the future and past with the present in harmony. One day at a time is truly a motto to live by, although more easily said than done. Thank you for your lovely thoughts. π
I LOVE this. Thanks for sharing.
Ah that makes me very happy. Thank you kindly. π
Hello Cubby, I too like the idea of tomorrow being something to look forward but the present something that has to be lived.
The only place we can really live is in the present, so we may as well make the best of it. π
Love the message this poem brings — very hopeful and reassuring!
I’m so glad you find it hopeful and reassuring. π
β€ very strong; love it!
Many thanks! So glad you enjoyed it. π
Lyrically lulls you into profoundly wise thought.
What a beautiful thing to say. Many kind thanks. π
Your poems are very soothing to te sou, when reading this I felt like I have a friend somewhere out there keeping the world warm for me with wisdom and empowering energies.
That is such a beautiful thing to say. The type of energy tends to depend on how much sleep I’ve had. π
Wonderful words that flow brilliantly. A lovely read for a calm Sunday
Many thanks for the kind words. π
A great reminder to us to appreciate the present!
Thanks Miranda! I’m happy it can serve that purpose. π
Yesterday gone.
Tomorrow an illusion.
Today, reality, wrought
In confusion.
I love thoughts on time.
Perfect, as usual.
Peanut butter cookies? I wonder. π x
Peanut butter cookies may everything better. Love your little poem. π
I’ll have to get the recipe. Might turn me on to peanut butter! π x
You might like it better in a cookie form, although texture plays a huge role. I like my cookies soft and doughy, so hard peanut butter cookies can take a hike into someone else’s mouth. π
I also love this poem. Your thoughts and words express what many feel. How lovely to share with us.
What kind words to offer. They are very much appreciated. So glad you enjoyed the poem. π
so hopeful, made me smile Cubby! π
Smiling is good for your heart. π
Great wisdom.
“Tomorrow – a mystical place where 99% of all human productivity, motivation, and achievement is stored.” π
So close and yet so far… π
wow ! This one is terrific cubby π loved it.
Many, many thanks. I am so happy you enjoyed this! π
So many dreams deferred, sad really.
Deferred but not forgotten. π
Tomorrow is wonderful, but if we dwell too much on it, we may lose it for all we really know we have is today. π
Wise words. Very well said. π
=) This was exactly what I needed right now. So beautiful.
Reblogged this on Women Who Think Too Much by Jeanne Marie.
Very true, we want the future so much we forget and negate the present, great poem
I’m glad you enjoyed it. π
So thought provoking from the beginning. Great poem!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. π
