The sky was sad because it had
To stay above and bound.
It longed to go to earth and know
The freedom of the ground.
Since it was bold, one day it told
A piece of sky to fall,
And so it did as it was bid
And fell and learned to crawl.
The piece of sky did not ask why
It had to crawl on earth
When birds it knew all upward flew
In gaiety and mirth.
Instead it spent its days and went,
Now walking on its feet,
And learned to speak a bit each week
And thought that it was sweet
To live on land, to sit and stand,
And though it felt some pain,
It always knew that it would too
Soon greet the sky again. Copyright 2013 © Sonya Annita Song
I enjoyed this very much.
I am so very glad you did. 🙂
‘Morning, Cubby! 7.35 here. Greeted by these beautiful words. Feeling like a little piece of sky, one day to return. Thank you for a lovely awakening. First reading of a new day. 🙂 x
Yes, we are all pieces of sky that will return one day. I’m glad you understood the sentiment so well. 😀
Wow!! This was so random and amazing!! 🙂 loved it!
Lol thank you so much. I’m so happy you thought it was randomly amazing. 🙂

Fascinating idea! And a very sweet poem as well!
I figured if wombats can wear masks and capes, pieces of sky can fall. Many thanks soberflight. 🙂
Gorgeous writing Cubby. You are so inspiring 🙂
Aw, you are too kind (yes, you are). Thank you so much. 🙂

You are much too kind. Thank you so much for your generous words. 🙂
What a truly wonderful poem. Illustrate it and it would be the perfect book for children.
I wish I had 1/100,000 of your drawing talent. Sigh. 🙂
Thank you for the smile 🙂 Nice as always
I’m so glad it made you smile. 🙂

Groovy is my middle name…along with 20 other random names I’ve claimed and forgotten. 😉
You can still “remember ” new ones!
I really like this one. I love your rhyming skills.
Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoy my rhymes! 🙂
A Genesis myth. I love it!
Thank you so much, Kevin! 🙂
this is such a pretty piece; i feel torn reading it. on one hand, the grass seems greener than the other, but on the other, you can’t ever remove yourself from where you truly belong!
You should try to be happy wherever you find yourself. 🙂
Nice. A lovely piece of thought knowing we all go back to where we come from. Makes me wonder though, when you are back in the sky, in that vast expanse of unfathomable blue, wont you miss all that is below, the greens, the violet and every hue; the toil, the pain, the suffering, the longings, heartache and joy. Would it feel the same to be a piece of sky again ? Just wondering 🙂
Yes, I believe many things will be missed, but there is no greater joy than returning home. 🙂
Lovely…what a beautiful alternative to the normal creationist myths…I like this idea and you’ve written it so joyfully! I needed this pick-me-up after a stressful day…thanks!
I always loved creation myths. Glad you enjoyed this! 🙂
It was simply lovely…
Oh, I absolutely love this, Cubby! After all, we’re 100% stardust! Beautifully written.
Thank you so much Miranda! I am very happy you enjoyed it! 😀
Thanks, it made me smile
You’re very welcome. 🙂
Oh Cubby, I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this. I will read it to my girls too as although it can be interpreted with lots of deep and complicated meanings, on a simpler level it’s a really fun and lyrical story for me to share with my children. I hope you’ve had a good weekend. Pooky
It warms my heart when my poems are shared with other family members. Thank you so much for your lovely comments, and I hope your girls enjoy the poem. 🙂
They loved it!
Though I was wrong to assume they’d interpret it at face value. Somehow your poem got my 3 year olds exploring some quite complex ideas!
Wow, I have no idea what kind of complex ideas 3 year olds could have, but I find that very fascinating. I am so happy they enjoyed it! 🙂
I think the fact it coincided with a funeral was probably the reason they saw beyond the superficial this time but either way it was a fascinating journey into their minds!
I do not have any children, although I am of a healthy childbearing age, but I am fascinated by their little minds and their sense of wonder. I think it is so wonderful that you have some little ones of your own. 🙂
They certainly bring us a lot of happiness and having two almost the same age more than doubles the fun. One of my favourite things is just to listen to them talk together!
(My girls are 15 weeks apart. Second cousins being raised as sisters)
Ah, I was wondering if they were possibly twins. Having a sister so close in age means that you’ll always have a best friend. 🙂
They are incredibly close. Just like twins but with more birthdays 😉
P.S the way you talk of being healthy child bearing age made me think of livestock!!
Hehe moo!
So magical and full of invention! To be read again and again!
I am so happy you think so! That means so much to me. 🙂
I love Your poem about the sky….it makes me want to go with the piece that fell when it returns where it came from!
Shrimp
I think we all have a place somewhere to return to. 🙂
I like the places you think up..beautiful!!
(trills)
I just have to say it again!….you have the best imagination!! LOVE IT!!! 🙂
Lol thank you, it makes me very happy you would think so. 🙂
I like this very much. Bravo.
Thank you so much! 🙂
No greater joy than to be on land looking up at the sky!
Perhaps, one day it will be in reverse, living among the stars and looking down at land.
What great wonders we enjoy! I would guess, the key is to be happy where you are!
Beautiful poem Cubby!
Yes, there are so many wonders wherever we are, at all times. I love your beautiful thoughts. 🙂
I love how you put something surprising and new in a rhyming format. I hadn’t thought of the sky as a bound place before but it is of course a matter of perspective.
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. Yes, I agree that it is a matter of perspective. 🙂
Such a lovely read and thought provoking. Here I was so happy lately looking admiring UP and never thought it might want to join me 😉
Lol it’s all about perspective. 😉
