What I have found about the ones who judge
The worth of others with a scornful eye,
They are the ones who would also begrudge
This judgment on themselves and will decry
The acts of others, pointing out their faults,
Entitled to opinions, they’ll reply,
And quick to make the first verbal assaults,
Exemplifying prejudice and fear.
Short-circuited, life is a lonely waltz
Where in the end the verdict’s most severe
On those who think that it’s their right to wield
A gavel, masking self-doubts with a sneer.
For when you judge, impossible to shield
Are truths about you that will be revealed.
Well said and well written.
I am so glad you think so! 🙂
Poetic brilliance. I love this very much (=
Aw, you are too kind. I am so happy you enjoyed this. 🙂
Such a calm yet emotional poem, specially when you say at the end:
“But when you judge someone, you can not shield
“The truth about you will be revealed.”
I see this poem as a very personal one, yet as always beautiful and soothing my friend…
I can relate to this it is so true. None of us fully knows anothers burdens so we have no right to make judgement on anyone
Yes, it is so easy to judge someone without knowing their circumstances.
Powerfully written
Many kind thanks! 🙂
Eloquent and elegant. [A topic that had to be addressed indeed.]
I am so glad you thought so! 🙂
Wow Cubby so happy you were able to post this one, I think the whole business people have about being judged is something society has imposed on us unnecessarily. I have kids worrying about it all the time. Thought the greatest compliment I received lately is that I don’t judge people and I do try not to. But I do judge poems, from time to time….lol…yours are fine!! Have a good day.
Lol judging poems is more a matter of preference I think. As for people, it has to start with awareness of one’s own thoughts and actions and where they may stem from, i.e., stereotypes, biases, etc. I believe that you are someone who does not judge people as you come across as a very open-minded and accepting person. 🙂
Thank you Cubby, you are very kind, and I do try, as I think every person deserves to be treate with respect.
This is a lovely form and you’ve handled very well, it flows with a sort of pent-up emotions great great purrrrrrfect job done! Will it soon become a challenge soon?
Yes, there is a challenge coming up tomorrow. 🙂
yeah! Good news! 🙂

How elegant! The other word that comes to mind is harmony… of rhyme, of form, and the way you addressed the subject.
I am so happy you think so! 🙂

When you read this consider how it applies to stigma. Ironically some while read this from a place of judging others who judge. I suggest considering from the perspective of how you can be a better person!
Thanks Cubby x
Profound.
I’m glad you found it to be meaningful. 🙂
I like this form and you manage to still write something so though provoking too! It is so true how many who judge harshly are hard on themselves too. Brilliant poem!
Yes, I think many people who judge are terrified of being judged themselves but have built walls around them to protect their ego and narrow views of the world. I’m happy you like the form and message! 🙂
Wonderful poem, Cubby! Very good reminder for us to love each other more.
I’m so glad you think so. 🙂
“But when you judge someone, you cannot shield
The truth about you that will be revealed.”
This is so true. Brilliant.
I’m glad you believe this to be true also. 🙂
this is simply brilliant in form and sentiment Cubby, bravo!
it should be printed on a placard and worn as a scarlet letter,
on those who feel entitled to be judgmental.
You hit the nail on the head with the word “entitled”. I’m so glad you liked the form and message in the poem. 🙂

Nice message
Reblogged. Very cool
very true! i have been very guilty of being judgemental, pointing to other people’s faults and bad actions to deflect attention from my own. Changing that has been a difficult and a constant process. Good write!
I think we are all prone to making judgments as we have all been exposed to the prejudices and biases of society, culture, and even different religions. Change in the direction of personal growth is rarely an easy process but definitely a worthwhile pursuit. 🙂
Nice… That’s way someone observed every time we point our fingers on others, the other three of our fingers are pointing at us.. 🙂
That’s a very good way of putting it! I like that a lot. 🙂
🙂
Such a strong poem. Calm but with strength. Lovely.
Thank you kindly. I am so glad you found it to be calm but strong. 🙂
It is true. Our view of most things is so limited to understand and condemn others is beyond us. That does not mean we cannot tell right from wrong but right motivations for wrong doings or wrong motivations for right doings are beyond our vision and both earn a judgment from Someone far beyond our ken.
Very nicely put. Thank you for your thoughtful response. 🙂
Most welcome. Thank you for sonnet.
Accurate and well written! I could copy and paste this response to all of your work!!!
Lol I wouldn’t mind. 🙂
Yep. 😉
Yup! 🙂

This poem from Cubby contains such wisdom and insight that is quite confronting but worth the discomfort if you can bear the truth about yourself.
What more could we add?
This is EXCELLENT–not just the poem, you have stellar style, but the message. It definitely pierced my heart, as I’m struggling with the “nudge to judge” recently (well, always–but it’s been making me more cranky the last few days). So I appreciate the whole thing. God bless you BIG–love, Caddo
I think we all feel that “nudge to judge” sometimes, and it can definitely make one cranky. I often have to breathe in deeply and tell myself that everyone is wonderfully unique and has had different experiences that have led them to believe and act the way they do. This may or may not work. 😉
Especially for those of use who were brought up in critical, demanding, judging homes–I hear my mom’s voice still, and sometimes it comes out of my very own mouth, good grief!
The power of influence is so strong when we are young that it echoes even in our later years.
Yep, a serious bummer.
How absolutely true! Great job in writing an awesome poem with an apt and timely message!!!!
Thank you so much. I am so glad you enjoyed the poem! 🙂
OH I absolutely wholeheartedly believe every word of this Cubby. Perfectly crafted and well said x
I’m so glad you like the message in the poem. 🙂
Oh I really did!
I was feeling semi proud of myself for actually sticking to a poetic form today then you had to go and do a much more complicatedererer sonnet 😉 x
So many varied responses to an excellent poem. Those who judge and those who don’t, those who did and may try not to as a result of this. We are all guilty to some degree or other I suppose. I prefer not to because I don’t want the responsibility of judging someone else! I dread even being called for jury service. To imagine that we know what lies in another’s heart and mind is presumptious. Plus I don’t want to be judged. A bit of do unto others type of thing.
Doesn’t stop me having a go at politicians right enough. But they’re kind of a breed apart from people!
As usual, Cubby, your poems get to the nub of the matter in a succinct and beautifully poetic form.x
I absolutely agree about following the golden rule. If everyone treated others the way they wanted to be treated, the world would be an amazing place. 🙂
I’ve always found sonnets difficult to write, and this form looks especially challenging, but you write it beautifully, Cubby! And what a wonderful message as well! I
I am not overly fond of this form as it requires me to think too much, but I am very happy it pleases you. 🙂
Absolutely wonderful. I agree, the world would be a much better place if people judged themselves before others. Big hugs for my amazing friend!
Only as amazing as my readers. 🙂
Amen! Awesome and truthful message! Well done Cubby! 🙂
very clever well done
Thank you kindly, Barb. 🙂
Those last two lines say it all. Nice poem.
Doh! I could have saved myself 12 lines of writing! 🙂
The challenge post did not publish, even though I got a notification that it did. What’s going on? I wanted to r-blog it! 😀
I love learning from you, Cubby.
Err, that was a total accident. I had barely finished writing a very rough draft and went to save it but ended up pressing the publish button. Needless to say, I deleted it right away, but obviously not before the emails were sent out! The challenge post will be posted in about 7 hours. 🙂
Great writing, great message. Judge not
I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Always 🙂
Powerful words Sonya, hypocrisy is inherent in all of us to some degree but some people take it to another level
Aye, I think most of us would know one or two people who would fit that bill.
I think so too
This feels like a very complicated format/structure to me. But the message therein is most true!
And the message is the most important part of a poem, in my opinion. 🙂
Yes indeed, always!
really like this one…is me a bit, hammering away… when I seriously need to work on building myself better!!! did I mention I really like this one…think I will reblog it!! 🙂
I think everyone has areas in which they can improve on. The awareness and willingness to do so is what makes people better. 🙂

Wonderful wisdom Cubby! In beautiful form!

Judge not lest you be judged, so true
Especially love the last two lines.

Cubby seems to be on a hiatus, and I’ve been busy with my new job, but I wanted to give you folks something to read and so I am stealing this because it touched me (in light of my most recent poems). I hope you like it.
Very Nice. It touched me also. Really who are we to judge, we can’t see what’s in their heart. Only God can do that.
Absolutely love the last two lines.
