For I Am a Poet

For I am a poet
A voiceless voice in soundless space

For I am a poet
Seeking truth in lost conventions and
Comfort in tradition

For I am a poet
Disregarded by the masses as irrelevant
Insignificant in a world where significance has no meaning

For I am a poet
When I die my words will defy my death

As long as there is space
As long as there is time
I am not immortal
But clad with immortality

For I am a poet

  1. For I am a poet.. Yeah I love it

  2. “When I die my words will defy my death” , such a powerful sentence, this was a wonderful poem.

    1. Only because you believe it to be so. Thank you kindly for your gracious comment.

  3. Are poets really irrelevant? From who’s… eyes? The politicians? Sometimes Poets are the ones that tell the truth when everyone else acts like everything is fine…

    1. I don’t believe they are, but I feel “the masses” sometimes treat them like they are. I hope more people feel the same way you do. 🙂

      1. I feel the same way for printmaking ..like I’m on my own island creating work..If anything we as artists bring sanity and beauty back into the world ..with words, humor and color. The masses …are envious of what we have …Sometimes I’m glad I can write as well a create images…and sometimes I want to be like them…do you know what I mean?. In the end I think we are the luckiest to be this way. People call it a gift. but it’s a gift we have to work at to perfect..

        1. That’s very well said. You are indeed lucky to be able to write and create your own images. And I couldn’t agree with you more about being “a gift we have to work at to perfect.”

  4. You are a Poet and I hope you are having some fun and thank you for sharing your work. Reading your work make me want to create.

    1. I enjoy the struggle to find the words to express myself in a way that will reach others. My passion is to inspire. If my words inspire you to write more of your beautiful posts on your versatile blog, it would be an honor.

      1. I wrote a new one. I think you will like.

        1. Just checked it out, and you’re right, I did! 🙂

  5. I loved those words. I believe, as you likely do, that words can do many things. Change minds, calm thoughts and give comfort. If a poets words can accomplish even one of those things its worth every minute they write.

    1. Words only have power if allowed. Thank you for giving my words power through your interpretation.

      1. Yes and you have the power to write them.

“For I am a poet, disregarded by the masses as irrelevant”, that’s so true.

    1. So it seems, for the most part.
