When We Were Young (Rondeau)

When we were young, we laughed at fate;
Invincible, we’d venerate
Youth and beauty, strength and daring,
Seldom worried, seldom caring,
And little did we know of hate.

As years went by and hearts mutate,
Our fears and failures added weight,
And envy had us all despairing
When we were young.

Now looking back, we celebrate
The tears and pain that helped create
Steps to wisdom, roofs for sharing
All our love and faith declaring
That it was fun but overrate
When we were young.

  1. Great one
    Reading is fun
    You write like none
    Even than I can
    Words in plan
    In which rhyme can run
Once again that’s a great one

    1. You have some fun and nifty rhymes yourself! 🙂

    1. That’s okay. You have time to grow older.

  2. Wow, this is a lovely write and yes so true.

    1. What age takes away from us in health and beauty, it gives back to us in wisdom and perspective. Many thanks for your kind words. 🙂

      1. Such a sage. Never were truer words written 🙂 On that note its 6am here. I need my beauty sleep.:)

        1. Yes, without beauty sleep we tend to age faster hehe. 🙂

      2. Indeed. The pleasure was mine.

  3. writing in particular formats is hard for me, though I HAVE done challenges. I prefer to write in whatever rhythm fits the thing I want to say. Your ability to follow particular styles on a regular basis is impressive. I have a bunch of printouts of past challenges I did years ago, with an explanation of what they were, just so I know how to do it, again….but I never looked at them again after I tucked them away.

    1. I made the challenges into another tab/page so that people (you) can find them more easily with the instructions on how to write the different forms. You don’t have to force yourself to write a particular form if you don’t “feel it.” I actually hate writing the terza rima sonnet form, and it comes out in my clunkier poems, but if I can’t force myself to write these things, how can I ask others to try writing them? And your responses to the challenges were always brilliant, so you don’t give yourself nearly enough credit. 🙂

  4. How true. We are humbled when we look back at our lives.

    1. I’m glad you find this to be true. 🙂
