Prompt: Murmurs

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

Please help me finish this poem. It doesn’t have to rhyme, and I will add your entry to this post with your blog link and avatar name.

And please try to keep your entry under 12 lines (not including the first two).

If you like an entry, please like it on the writer’s blog as well.  If there are writers who don’t have their entries posted on their blog, please check out some of their other posts. 🙂

I look forward to reading all of your creative responses!

The ocean murmurs to the beach
and all the grains of sand

Tall waves remain just out of reach
still I stretch out my hand
Life still had so much more to teach
before I left this land

The Rage of Love

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

Rejoice to feel its gentle touch
Caressing peaceful land

The ocean rages in the storm
Waves crash against the cliffs
The cliffs stand strong through thousand blows
Though sometimes boulders slip

The ocean ebbs and flows within
The confines of my soul
Sometimes storm, and sometimes peace
To help me learn and grow

My body shapes and channels all
The salty, bitter flood
Like sand or cliff enjoy or stand
Against the rage of love.

The Ocean Murmurs To The Beach
And All The Grains Of Sand.

Let’s Meet, Where Water Kisses Land.
Let’s Meet, Like Lovers Hand In Hand.

Where Sky, Horizon So Meet and Mix.
Where Nature So Proudly Shows.
All Her Tricks.
Let’s Meet.

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand.

The whispers of the souls
Caught upon this land.

Seeking, begging, pleading
For another chance.

A chance to do what is right
Knowing when to take a stand.

Now forever lost
If only they had known the final cost.

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

Dance in ecstasy
Under the pressure
Of an invisible hand,
Torn by desire
And heavy compassion
While the hot coal
Of underwater heat
Leaves a blister
On the white band
Of land.

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

A warm gentle bliss
Rushes over flowing blemishes
Birds gliding high up in unclear skies
Darkening from raising grains of sand
Thunderheads are approaching

Had it all wrong
Tarnishing lives,
meant to celebrate.

They know they set sail to Hades’ Keep
For the sea shells tell them so

The ocean murmurs to the shore
And all the grains of sand

Twinkle and turn in the azure drift
Cleansed in the soothing flow.
A shell all twists and turns floats by
And lands on the shifting grains
While seabirds fight for the snack it hids
Fighting with beak and claw.
And the ocean murmurs an endless song,
Shushing and soothing the sore
Of heart who stand in the silken flow
While sand trickles in between sun kissed toes
And slips to the depths below.

Waves

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

I crumble as the waves reach
Where you scribed your love by hand

Two sets of footprints have become one
The other’s were consumed by waves

I walk alone by the fading sun
I cherish the diminishing rays

You slipped through my hand
Now, you’re out of my reach

My feet sink into the wet sand
As I murmur to the ocean from the beach

Uprising

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

The sea issued a brief speech
“King Octopus has sent the command

I’m spreading as far as I can reach
Creatures of the sea are taking the land

Sea lions have done reconnaissance
Crabs have done a thorough canvas

We have complete reports from dolphins
I’m spreading wherever land is

It was all water once, that’s all we’ve wanted since
The whole world’s about to be Atlantis

Questioning the sand once again

Beckoning all to join it, in its eternal dance

Calming motions setting all at ease
The murmurs of the ocean, forever there perpetual
Now and ever more

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand
I’m sorry for soiling you
But the blame should lie with man.

Because of sin the earth was cursed
Now I, the ocean is impure
Some now seek to clean and save me
But alas, it’s too late I’m sure.

Day’s End

The ocean murmurs to the beach
And all the grains of sand

giggling with sheer delight

dancing with a gentle breeze

hear the horns and bells echo
fishing boats docking with ease

seagulls standing still… stoic
on the soggy darkened beach

rapt in wonder… oh, setting star!
orange, pinks and reds afar

blending into amethyst
gentle splash of rolling waves

hoot of an owl, telling time
islanders all heading home

The Rhythm

The ocean murmurs to the beach
and all the grains of sand
of each tide’s potent transience,
listen; silt and shingle understand
time tumbling through liquid hands,
shipping news, travel plans,
lost civilizations
and
then that next great, ingulfing wave expands beyond where you think it should,
globes in grains, mumbles in wombs
as rockpools are replenished,
covered footprints in the dunes
and yet sea and strand remember us
as ocean mutters to its returning land.

      1. Thanks for the inspiring beginning. Congratulations on your first children’s book btw

        1. Thank you! I’m trying to squeeze in blogging time every chance I get, but it’s not easy hehe. 🙂

          1. You’re doing well, don’t worry, but I hope you take the time you need. Like so many others, I’m gleefully working through your challenges, (and creating a few of my own) but don’t expect immediate responses.

            1. I think your enthusiasm for the challenges is fantastic. 🙂

          2. PS. your comments are always great; you have a way of tuning in to different poet’s intentions, and you have a way with words in your own work.

            1. That’s very kind of you to say. I can be embarrassingly wrong when it comes to the work of others, in which case I back pedal, back pedal, back pedal. 🙂
