A Hero is Born

A hero is born not from the laurels
Of glory but from the sweet lullabies
Of a loving voice, safe from the quarrels
Of a burning world and its desperate cries,
Until one day when the voice disappears
And the child has grown and views with his eyes
The horrors around him, and shedding tears,
He sings to the world his own lullabies.

I have to give all the challenge takers major props for their responses to the Prompt: Hero.  This was ridiculously difficult for me to write about, and I was in frustrated awe at how many of you wrote such amazing things so easily.  Really fantastic job, all of you. 😊

  1. this is beautiful, very touching, thank you 🙂

    1. Aww thank you. I was desperate to get something down hehe. 🙂

      1. I think I noticed that…but you nailed it in the end. You were also desperate to conclude you know…you ushered a lullaby and left us to ponder the rest. It’s beautiful and it hangs in the air like smoke from a wick just quenched of its spark in a windowless room.

        1. You wax poetic even in your comments. You must live and breathe poetry. 🙂

          1. I really can’t say I do lol…but comments need to feel alive too, you know. 💐

            1. And you definitely know how to bring them to life. 🙂

              1. At least you appreciate them…thanks Sonya, you know you flatter me too much. And I don’t write so many poems. Sometimes one a day, it depends on the flow. I don’t like a gathering of words with too little meaning.

                1. I understand what you’re saying about flow and meaning, although what may seem like “words with too little meaning” to you may seem very meaningful to someone else.

                  1. True, I can’t always have the sorcerer’s stone. Maybe we can do synopsis sometimes. I may decide to post a synopsis soon. Was thinking I leave it till I publish my book. Will decide that soonest.

                    1. When will your book be published?

                    2. Towards the third quarter most likely but before the year runs out. Will inform you

                    3. Please do! I will be looking forward to it. 🙂

  2. It’s beautiful Sonya!

  3. This is wonderfully beautiful. You are a great craftsman!! Heroes are born from lullabies and they sing to the world with their own lullabies. How beautiful the idea is!! 🙂 🙂

    1. You are so kind. I’m so glad you like my idea of a hero. 🙂

    2. You are so welcome, Sonya!! 🙂

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

  4. Very touching and great use of the word, Hero!

We all have our own perceptions of what Heroes are…I dig yours.

It’s hard to live in this world when you take off the blinders that kept you “safe” from the Big Bad Wolf. Though life itself is wonderous, those who share this experience with us are often full of darkness. It’s disheartening to continue on in this reality.

    1. Very well said. We can only hope that the darkness does not overwhelm and consume us before we find ourselves standing in our own shadows.

      1. “We can only hope that the darkness does not overwhelm and consume us before we find ourselves standing in our own shadows.” Um that’s a keeper…need a scrap of paper? Big Time Keeper 💜🤗

  5. It reads effortlessly.

  6. we repeat things by vowing to do it differently this time around. I liked how this poem read.

  7. Your words are golden. So meaningful, so true. Loved your version.

  8. So beautiful.

    1. I’m so glad you think so! Thank you! 🙂

  9. Hello to you.
This is an excellent piece. It is balanced and atmospheric too. Gentle and yet emotive.

    1. That’s very kind of you. Thank you so much. 🙂

  10. This is beautiful. It puts me in mind of the theme of Wordsworth’s ‘Ode: Intimations of Immortality.’

    1. Thank you so much for your gracious words. They truly warm my heart. 🙂

  11. It’s a good start. 👏 just keep it up….

  12. This is deep. Keep writing

    1. Thank you for your kind words. 🙂

  13. Gentle heroes – my favourite kind.

    1. I prefer them over the violent ones. 🙂

  14. “And the child has grown and views with his eyes
The horrors around him, and shedding tears,
He sings to the world his own lullabies.”

These lines brought me to tears… 😦 My favorite poem of this week.

    1. Aww thank you so much for your kind words. 🙂

      1. You’re very welcome my friend. 🙂 Bless you so much.

  15. I love your version – quite beautiful

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you liked it! 🙂

  16. Hope lives on. Nicely done. I’m still laughing at you struggling with your own prompt, but came through it heroicly.

I got distracted by deadlines for other challenges, but I should have a chance to come back to this today. What else rhymes with laurels?

    1. Chorals, florals, morals, sorrels, quarrels (the one I used)…a stretch with squirrels though I would love to see that used hehe.

      1. Squirrels was my first thought. Heroic squirrels didn’t lead anywhere without double entendre nut references.

Thanks for the list. I have an end but still need a start.

        1. Starting is usually the hardest part.

          1. I think trying to rhyme with laurels and make it make sense is the hardest part.

            1. In this case, yes, that is true. 🐱‍🐉

    1. I’m glad you think so! Thank you! 🙂

      1. I have several posts about Heroes, too. I hope you write more about these Paladins. ♥️ May I put your link to your Heroes poem on my Pinterest and Facebook, (if I can figure out how to do it)? If not, I understand! 💜

        1. Of course you may! Everything I post on my blog is for the world to see, if they so wish to. I am honored that you would want to share my words with others. 😊🌸💜
