In the night while I was walking,
Brooding by myself and talking,
Almost did I fail to notice
Midnight’s magic blooming lotus.
Snow white petals softly gleaming,
Surely, I thought I was dreaming
Of a flower gently streaming,
Unfurling in the midnight air.
Even as I tried to declare
That my mind was perfectly square,
Two feet were rounded by the sight
Of flower blooming in the night.
I found that I was somehow standing
In the middle and commanding
Graceful petals, outward stranding,
Twirling in the midnight air.
Sweet joy now perched in every hair,
No longer rooted in despair,
Up in the breathless sky I flew
And bid the restless ground adieu,
And those who saw could feel it too –
The magic brewed in midnight air.

Oooh I love this – your lotus flower sounds a lot of fun. Does it have magical properties?
Yes, magical properties that are limited only by one’s imagination. π
Wow what a vivid portrayal. I could imagine every minute of it, such fantastic imagery. I’ve never seen a flower unfurl before my eyes. I’m resisting the temptation to google it, I guess one day I might know the joy.
Joy is always waiting for you to come find it so that it may lift your spirits and fold you in its sweet embrace.
Beautiful **grins dreamily**
“Sweet joy now perched in every hair,”
wonderful.
I hear a little cadence like that of Poe’s The Raven.
That is truly a great compliment. Many thanks. π
Midnight air is indeed magical… beautiful write.
Thank you so kindly. π
WOW! The magic is in your words.
Only when brought to life by your imagination. π
Wow, this was breathtaking, and I lvoed it even more that it reminded me, in its form and rhyme scheme, to E. A. Poe’s “Raven “. An Outstanding piece really!
I wasn’t sure how it would be received, but I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it and honored that it reminded you of Poe. π
Rhythm of Poe, but not dark–much lighter. Lovely!
Thank you for such generous words. So glad you enjoyed it. π
It is like I was standing there beside you! These words are so picturesque! π
Many thanks! I’m so happy you thought so. π
Yep, it was beautiful. It was a pleasure to read and enjoy.
Midnight is where the magic is happening, it is my favorite time. Thank you for painting a lovely picture.
And thank you so much for your lovely comment. π
Sweet joy π
Yes, joy is sweet. π
Really Beautiful!
Your words fill my heart with joy. π
What beautiful images you created in my mind! Thank you!
It is a privilege to be able to create these images for you. π
Sweet joy now perched in every hair,
No longer rooted in despair.
WOW!!!!Your rhyming is superb…
Aw, I’m so glad you enjoy my rhymes. π
okay…as a child of the 60’s I remember a similar occurrence….
Hahaha I don’t think we are talking about the same type of magic lol. π
Great piece… π
Thank you kindly. π
Beautiful!
Thank you kindly. π
Magical indeed.
Only because you can feel it. π
This is absolutely the most charming poem I have ever read!
Lol I find that a little hard to believe but thank you for being so kind. π
you do indeed write beautifully,i love the rhythm here,it’s marvelous!
Many thanks for your kind words. I’m delighted you enjoyed this. π
How i wish I could have such a lovely magical adventure! I was so happy to read this when I got home this afternoon…a real pick me up! Puuuuuuuurfect!
So happy it could lift your spirits a bit. π
You inspired me! π
You amaze me every time you write a new poem. My favorite poet is Edgar Allan Poe, and your poem reminded me so much of The Raven.
That is an incredible compliment and I am honored that it would remind you of such a classic. Many kind thanks. π
ohhhhh…..Love, Love, Love! π
Awwww, thank you x3! π
This first four lines… Wow. I needed the message within this poem today.. Thank you! ~ Bill
Aw, thank you for the effort you made to post this comment. I hate to think that there are invisible comments that I am ignoring. Please forgive me if you comment in the future and I do not reply as I try to reply to all comments that are made…that I can see. π
No worries at all. π Not your fault at all. It’s the WP iphone app I’m sure. Sometimes I’ll get almost all the way through a comment and then it vaporizes before I can hit send… Haha!
Beautiful! For some reason I love this line: Two feet were rounded by the sight
To me it implies total joy.
I love the way you interpret things. Thank you so much for your kind words. π
Love the rhythm and flow. Magic at midnight, a thing of wonder. Wonderful.x
Midnight has always been a magical time. π
Another fantastic Cubby poem! I’m glad to see the other comments mentioning that “Midnight Magic” is reminiscent of Poe’s “The Raven.” I thought the exact same thing! A really beautiful poem here.
I think it’s because there are a lot of “-ing” rhymes in this poem, as in “The Raven”. I am flattered that it would remind anyone of his work in any way. π

Many kind thanks for your generous words. Your poems have their own grace that is also beautiful. π
I absolutely love this, so very beautifully written. These two lines were my favorite:
‘That my mind was perfectly square,
Two feet were rounded by the sight’
Someday I hope to write as well as you do. Truly magical!
You write beautifully, and there is magic in your words as well. You already write as well in your own way as I do, in my own way. π
Thanks so much! π
Fantastically magical π
π
Truly magical and it reads like Poe!
I’m very flattered you think so! Thank you kindly, Shainbird. π

You know this is beautiful, not because I say it is but the night says it is and the wind too whistles softly in good refreshing tunes as it sails through the night.
I love how poetic your comments can be. Thank you for your lovely words. π
Your words are a spell. An occult ready to be explored but a mystery. A splendor my friend
The caster of the spell works the magic, not the words themselves, although I suppose there cannot be one without the other, so thank you for being such a beautiful caster. π
You write so beautifully. I am always mesmerized π
Likewise. π

Your lovely words are greatly appreciated. π
Your poems are so pretty ππ
You are so kind. Thank you! π
The pleasure’s all mine π
This is quite the magical take on “stop and smell the roses.” I’m glad you pulled it out of the archives.
I didn’t have time for much else hehe. π
There’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve considered digging out some old stuff. There are some that even I think are good.
I would suggest you pick those over the ones you don’t think are as good.
That would save time writing but wouldn’t have the same therapeutic properties.
True. It’s a bit of a trade-off.
It could also fill in the gaps on days I don’t have anything.
Exactly. π
Amazingly musical poem. Very beautifully flowed, adressing all the senses. I can smell that lotus π Keep up.
Thank you for your lovely words. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful poem – really sparks off the imagination with good sense and beauty!
Thank you so much for your lovely words! π
Beautiful and amazing.
