Time

The day was new
But I was old,
The papers fresh,
Already told,
The calves were young,
The cheese well aged,
The plays begun
Already staged.
The grass was green
But leaves were brown,
The moon comes up
As sun goes down,
And though it’s now,
Already gone,
The future’s here
And so’s the dawn.
