Someone I knew once said to me,
Full of very good intent,
“I think that I should clarify
What it is I truly meant
When I said you are like a cat,
It means you’re similar
But not the same as you can see
You clearly have no fur.
I have no problem with pretend
When we are all alone,
But when we’re out in public
Won’t you please throw me a bone.
Like when we’re out for dinner,
They all think it’s a gag
When you ask that all your
Leftovers be put in a kitty bag.
Waiters look at me and ask,
‘And a doggy one for you?’
And then I end up growling at them,
‘No, I’ll chew a shoe.’
You have to set clear boundaries.
I will not sit and stay
If you cannot act properly.
Well, what have you to say?”
I replied, “Of course, I understand
Your concerns I have them too…
You see, you’re really not a dog
But a silly human too!” Copyright 2013 © Sonya Annita Song
You are very clever just at it should be!
Ah, if only…I think I should be a cat.
How wonderfully clever, the rhymes roll of the tongue so easy and sweet. I love how I can read this to my son, like the Twirls and Swirls one and I am sure he will enjoy it and learn something from it as well.
Hehe I hope your son does enjoy it. I love to hear that some of my poems can appeal to children as well. 🙂
LOL Once a cat…always a cat…purrrrr. Such fun.
I may have to make you an honorary cat. You have a great purr.
Do you really ask for a kitty bag?:)x
I’ll leave that up to you to figure out. 😉
This is so cute =)
I forgot to mention my husband calls me a squirrel but I look rather much like a lion lol
A lion squirrel. You’d be the undisputed king of your squirreldom.
I love it! So funny!
😀
Hi! I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! Have a lovely day!
http://suzie81.wordpress.com/2013/07/31/versatile-blogger-award/
Why thank you kindly! That’s very kind of you indeed. Such a consideration is greatly appreciated. 🙂
Presumably you don’t lick your own bottom in public, either.
Presumably.
This is a good one that suits any age. Also its an easy read for people that are just getting into poetry and don’t like the complicated stuff. I really admire your work Cubby
Many thanks. I really enjoy reading your work also. 🙂
So true to life. I like as well as some of the comments made me laugh
Yeah, there are some pretty cheeky commenters. 🙂
Ah…of course kitty bags are well worth-while asking for totally apt and a bone for the dog too. The dog was a bit of a twit and definately with problem’s in regards to humour!
It just goes to show that not everyone with a funny bone is necessarily funny.
Or funny is an individualistic existential moot point. Question of taste…some people actually don’t like dark chocolate, can you imagine?
The horror! Up to 85% is divine! After that, well…to each his/her own. 😛
I can’t but agree!
It is funny, and yet, I find there is more to it then just the rhymes. Or maybe I am reading too much into the literature of it.
Great work either way, cubby. A great cat you are!! 😉
Thank you kindly. Purrrr. Whatever your interpretation of the poem is, that is part of the collaborative process of reading and writing. I create by writing, you process by reading, and then you recreate through interpretation. 🙂
Truer words I haven’t heard.
But my favorite works remain to be those which on face value are plain yet can be dissected to deepest depths. You write like that. HENCE, your work has become a favorite!
And, purrrrr right back at you! 😉
Thank you for bringing laughter to my morning 🙂
🙂
This made me giggle. A lot. 😀
I love people who know how to giggle! 🙂
