A Ballad for the Brokenhearted

I tripped into the crevice of your heart
And stumbled on a blanket of dead leaves.
I cried in shock – the land was torn apart,
Essence robbed by iron-hearted thieves.
What happened to the Eden you conceived?
Which selfish harvest caused your heart to bleed?
Why are you silent when your spirit grieves?
I’ll trade my garden for your lonely weed.

The first time that I met you was the start
Of feelings, long forgotten, sun retrieves
And blends the ice into prismatic art
As sun with moonlight gently interweaves.
How did I miss the tearstains on your sleeves?
How did I turn to blindness with my greed?
Is it too late to offer these reprieves?
I’ll trade my garden for your lonely weed.

My flowers and my fruits I will impart;
I’ll happily uproot them – though naive,
Fruit’s not too sweet and still a little tart,
The sweetness gained from all that I’ve received.
A mountain moves when earth from soil heaves
And snow birds caged will fly when they are freed;
You’ll thrive because my heart in you believes;
I’ll trade my garden for your lonely weed.

    Love heals all. And sometimes, all it takes is that one relationship to bring a person back to life. Two paws up. 🙂

    1. Cubby's avatar

      Hopefully, every brokenhearted soul will find their special someone if they keep an open heart. Thanks for the paws! 🙂

      Thank you so much for the nomination. I really appreciate the kind gesture. Unfortunately, my paws and whiskers are not very good with these kinds of things. I did, however, take one sunflower to nibble on and play with.

    Beautiful yet tragic piece.

    I can relate to some degree. Loving someone so broken and you bend till it nearly kills you to fix them.

    Lesson learned

    1. Cubby's avatar

      That you can relate shows a painful history, but it sounds like you are stronger and wiser for it.

    One of the antidote a brokenhearted would received for recovery are words of healing en-graced in comfort from a Tenderhearted. Great lines with perfect rhymes.
