Never Empty

I nursed my
Broken heart,
Ashamed
At what I thought
An empty hole,
Until I found
That poetry
Was nested deep
Within my soul.

  1. so so so true, Amen, it helps so much, poetry is a gift. lovely articulation, Sonya

    1. Thank you for your kind words! It is a gift that I believe everyone has and one that only needs to be discovered. 🙂

  2. So true Sonja. Rather? An empty well, hollow, space, shaft, cavity? I love the poem. It’s “hole” that bothers me. Not the concept. Hope you don’t mind. 🙂❤

    1. I apologize for choosing a word that bothers you, but I personally like “hole” as it is a homophone for “whole.” 🙂

      1. Tails between her legs 😦

        1. Aww, no tail between legs. You are allowed to have preferences. There are some words that I don’t like either, even if they make sense. 🙂

          1. I wouldn’t know a homophone if it rang 😊

            1. LOL I normally wouldn’t either but my last prompt has me in that frame of mind 🙂

              1. I’m learning. You’re a good teacher

                1. Good pupils make for easy teaching 🙂

    1. Aww, you are too sweet. Thank you so kindly. 🌸💜😊

  7. So true!! Awesome to realize!!

    1. It is the realizing that can be the tricky part, but I believe there is poetry in everyone. Thanks for your lovely words, Jordy! 🙂

      1. I agree. Songs live in our hearts, sometimes it hard to shape them into words.😊

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

  8. And it is so true, you do have poetry nested deep within your soul.

    1. I truly believe so, though it may be hard to dig out. 🙂

      1. You do a great job of digging it out!

    A beautiful poem, Cubby! ❤

    1. Thank you kindly! And sometimes that’s what it takes. 🙂

I wonder if this happens to you but for as long as I can remember, I have only written a poem when I have had a surge of emotions that immediately need some form of artistic vent to escape from. Sometimes, it’s a song that I am listening to and a particular line would catch my attention long enough to scribble a verse or two. Other times, to the annoyance of my loved ones, it happens during movies scenes or some Netflix series when specific dialogues or scene settings would strike the emotion chord and I start writing! lol

        1. I actually thought the only reason I could write before was because I was depressed. Because of this belief, I have gone long periods of time (once 5 years and once 10 years) without writing a single poem. Now I know it is not true; although it may be easier to write when depressed, I can still write even when I’m not.

It sounds like you are struck with moments of inspiration quite often, which is a wonderful thing. 🙂

Lol! No, Cubby, I gave a wrong impression. It only happens when I am not working and have too much free time at hand! But I too once believed I could only write when feeling low which is of course not true. All one needs is interest and focus. 🙂💕

            1. Absolutely. Well said! 😊🌸

  10. beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Such a simple, short statement resonates with all of us who write because that’s where poetry comes from! Words are dead without the feelings behind them, good or bad. Good feelings turn into paeans of gratitude, and bad feelings are catharsis. ❤❤❤❤❤

    1. Absolutely agree with you about feelings and words. Well said! 🙂

  11. Yes! Well said.

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you think so. 🙂

  16. You always convey complex concepts so elegantly.

Writing is definitely cathartic. My poetic resurgence the past month and a half has been helpful for me. That’s why my poems are always so happy and hopeful. 🎈 🐴

    1. I’m really happy that you are writing more poetry because you write such delightful poems. 😊👍🐱‍🐉

  17. Poetry has such great healing powers. Thank you for writing x

    1. And thank you for reading. 😊🌸

  18. I like this a lot! So much is conveyed while being concise. I interpret this as finding solace through poetry. It’s like a dependable tool that’s always ready.

    1. It’s something that I believe dwells in everyone, this place of solace. I’m glad you found the words meaningful. 🙂

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you think so! 🙂

  21. I like that: the concept of emptiness — it appeals to the Buddhist within me. Did you know a Buddhist poem of mine is appearing in an anthology?

    1. Congrats on the anthology inclusion! I find Buddhist philosophy fascinating. 🙂
