Thief

To catch a thief one must be quick,
They skulk in shadows, oh so sly,
With steady stealth they stalk their prey,
With jewels sparkling in their eye.

They look for treasures everywhere,
In hidden nooks, in freezers too,
A flashlight in their nimble hands
Means all your merchandise in view.

A sudden stub, a muffled curse,
You hasten from your comfy bed,
You look around for anything
To hit your guest upon the head.

Armed with the first thing that you see,
A broom left careless in the way,
You slowly creep along the wall
And try to keep your fears at bay.

Not in your den or TV room,
The thief is nowhere in the house,
The cheese is gone, and so’s the chance
To catch a sneaky little mouse!

I’m not scared…
