When Sharks Cry

For Chelsea McBride who wanted a poem about crying sharks.

Don’t be mislead
By sharks that cry,
Not those with gills
For air supply,
But sharks that walk
In slick disguise
On land as humans
To our eyes.
Unlike finned sharks,
They do have ducts
For tears to flow
As they instruct,
And they will teach
Themselves to act
In such a way
That won’t attract
Suspicion of
Black hearts inside,
Of predators
That slyly hide
Until they crush
You and they claim
That life is just
A hunting game.
And though they cry,
They cannot feel,
Though for themselves
Their tears are real,
No empathy,
They walk the paths
Of crying sharks
Called psychopaths.

Sorry Chelsea, not really about the sharks you were referring to, but I hope you’ll accept these land sharks as an acceptable alternative. 🙂

I would never want to meet one. Brrr, gives me shivers just to think about it.

I think I met one over the weekend, tried to do a line and with time to think too many unanswered questions. so he can go bye bye

Yikes, yeah, if you even suspect someone might be one, run as fast and far as you can.

Have you published any of your poems? I would love to have a book of them!

No, but that is awfully sweet and kind of you to say. Maybe one day, but for now I’m simply enjoying writing for the eyes of my fellow bloggers. 🙂

I guess we all have met one or two of those in our lives.

Hopefully without the emotional scars they tend to leave behind.

You can elicit genuine tears from them by placing a well-aimed kick to their happy-sacks.

I have never heard them called “happy-sacks” before. It is somehow completely appropriate. There is something poetic about happy-sacks being the cause of tears.

Ah…fantastic! This merits far more then chocolate…clear sight and useful warning of those who are psychopathic egoists.

True psychopaths are worse than real sharks, although it is often argued in court cases that they cannot be held accountable for their actions as they are biologically wired that way. The argument is that they lack the neural connections to feel empathy and are therefore “morally disabled”. Judges have actually given shorter sentences when presented with this evidence as they viewed it as a mitigating factor. Morally disabled or not, they are a danger to humans and should not have access to lifestyles that enable them to prey on them.

To that I must agree…we live a strange times, we all too often want to be fair, but then we do things that are completely unfair. We should try to find a better road, but that would imply compassion mixed with wisdom. Usually, what society want though is a quick fix…difficult times.

Hey, I know some of those people. I stay away from them but they really do exist. Nice poem…perfect in every way.

    1. Cubby's avatar

Yeah, I would stay away from them too. They are never good news. Glad you liked the poem! 🙂

I used to take my boys to Sea World and we’d go see the different species of sharks….don’t think these sharks had one thing to cry about, Food everyday the perfect habitat. But yeah to bad they couldn’t get kicked in the happy sacks! That would have been a good show.

    1. Cubby's avatar

LOL I have no idea how that would turn out. Possibly not too well though. 😛

I love this! This is better than the sharks I was referring to. Thank you for writing a poem for me 🙂

It was my pleasure! Glad you weren’t disappointed! 😀

I loved this poem. Unfortunately, I’ve known a couple psychopaths, and this fits them perfectly. I’ve got the scars. Never thought I’d find a poem about them that would make me laugh. I’m currently writing a novel involving a psychopath…your poem cites him perfectly. I’m going to print it out and keep it for inspiration. Thanks for stopping by my blog, also!

That is horrific…to have met more than one. I hope your scars have healed. Your novel sounds intriguing. I am honoured that you would use one of my poems for inspiration.

WOW, this is an excellent description of sociopathy–too real and scary. I’ve become quite reclusive, don’t trust anyone–maybe I watch/read too many true-crime stories; or maybe I’m just a smart cookie. Anyway, you have a powerful poem here.

I am a bit of a hermit myself. It sounds like you are a cookie that doesn’t want to be eaten, and that sounds pretty darn smart to me. Glad you liked the poem! 🙂

It’s a shame when the shark is family and must be dealt with on a regular basis — you are very accurate in your description of them!

    1. Cubby's avatar

Yikes! I would imagine that sharks in familiar waters would be tricky to handle!

  13. laurie27wsmith's avatar

    I like that!

Impressive write! From what I’ve read/seen about true psychopaths it seems you are pretty darn accurate!

    1. Cubby's avatar

They are fascinating in a really sick way. Psychopaths would be at the top of the food chain.
