Guilty Socks

I put my socks on inside out
And when I noticed it,
I was about to take them off
But then I thought, permit.
Permit myself to wear my socks
Whichever way they go,
It’s not like I am swinging them
About my ears for show.
But still I feel a little pang
To flaunt this silly rule;
I know my friends and family
Would see me as a fool.
Conformity’s the brainchild of
Society gone mad
When I can’t even wear my socks
Like this and just be glad!

      1. Funny I really don’t care whether my socks are on the right way or not.. Made me laugh

  1. I wear odd ones and whatever way they come out of the drawer!x

    1. I prefer to be sockless whenever possible, although in winter I have to sleep with socks or else I can’t fall asleep.

  2. Lol, I used to always wear my socks inside out as a kid because I thought the sewn line at the toe was uncomfortable! My friends thought it was so weird. Simple subject tied to a deep philosophical idea – clever and impactful!

    1. Conformity is so pervasive we don’t even realize that it affects even our smallest actions. I think it’s sad that children learn at such a young age to be so judgmental of others. Glad you liked the poem. 🙂

  3. Hahaha! I don’t think I’ve ever worn socks inside out, purposely.
** and she puts it on tomorrows to-do list**Lol

    1. It’s harder to do than you think. Although if no one sees them, you shouldn’t have a problem. I would hate for you to become known as the “inside-out sock girl”.

      1. Lol! I don’t think I would hate it 😉

  4. Liked both versions, but this was is less banal…just remember…if you wear your socks inside out and you have an accident…what will the doctors think! That’s what my mom came up with when I was a kid and had a whole in my under pants 😉

    1. I don’t think doctors would care about a hole in your undies when you have suffered an injury serious enough to warrant immediate medical attention. At least, that’s what I would like to think.

      1. Tell that to my mum! For the longest time I’d get this flash of terrible accidents due every time I put on my underwear 😉

  5. Still smiling! Bravo!

  6. Ahh! I love this poem.

    1. That makes me very happy! 🙂

A great social insight there at the end… 🙂

  8. Meow!~
    What an adorable kitty.
I really like this- It is very cute, and has a bit of a serious glimpse at societal standards and how they can play a part in even the most trivial of things in our daily lives. I really liked this.

    1. My whiskers are twitching with joy at such fine praise! Reowr! 🙂

  9. “It’s not like I am swinging them
    About my ears for show.”
This made for a very funny mental picture. 😛

    1. Hehe it was easier to stick them on the ears than on the nose. 😉

  10. LOL Love it but so sad everyone is so pressured to conform. “They” can’t make me be a sheep…I sometimes wear mismatched socks on purpose! So there “they” can take that! LOL 🙂

    1. You are a much stronger person than I am. I will, however, sneak out whenever I can in my pajama top when I can keep a jacket over it. It feels devilishly good.

  11. This made me grin, funny yet insightful too! Good work!

    1. Hehe one of my rare nonfictional pieces. 😉

  12. Nice one! It gave me a giggle, light hearted writing but with more to it than first appears. Love it! 🙂 x

  13. Just what I needed right now 😂💜

    1. A little silliness can go a long way. 🙂

      1. Looking at my socks 🧐 Hmm
