It Takes Two

For Chelsea McBride, who said I could write a poem about a “dancing teddy bear + Eminem”.

My teddy bear will rap and dance,
And when he hears a catchy song
He’ll look at me with sparkling eyes
And ask my hands to tag along.

I can’t deny this small request
Because my hands know how to move
His arms and legs to Eminem
And other tunes to help him groove.

He always takes my baseball cap
To put on backwards just because
He thinks that’s just the way it is
And part of what a rapper does.

He feels he’s smoother than Jay-Z
When rapping ’bout a hard-knock life,
Recounting tales of being smeared
With jelly by a butter knife.

And playas, they get all his love
Because he thinks it’s very grand
To play with someone like a toy,
The hate he does not understand.

He drops a verse of sad neglect,
Of days and weeks not being played,
And lonely nights behind the couch,
Forgotten, lost, and so afraid.

But everything is everything,
It’s all a New York state of mind,
The things a teddy bear can do…
Well, it takes two, or so you’ll find.

This is sweet and even sad, and who knew a poem about a teddy bear and Eminem could have that effect? I especially liked:

“He feels he’s smoother than Jay-Z
When rapping ’bout a hard-knock life,
    Recounting tales of being smeared
With jelly by a butter knife.”

    Big : )

Nice one. But why is that poor teddy dropping a verse about neglect? Almost weeping here for his hurt. Have to go now and give mine a cuddle. If I can find him. πŸ™‚ Smartly done. x

It’s not my fault he wanders around aimlessly. He has a horrible sense of direction. πŸ˜›

Sometimes you’ve got to let your tale ( πŸ˜‰ ) twitch!

Wow, you rose to the challenge and way surpassed it, not just Teddy and Eminem, but dance, groove, jammed, neglect, NYC and it takes two. Wow! Plus rhythm and rhyme. A masterpiece.

Haha wow, thank you very kindly for such high praise. I am so glad you enjoyed this piece. Teddy bears inspire me. πŸ™‚

LOVE it! I always feel bad when I neglect my things — toys, books, clothes! It’s as if they stare at me and say, “pay attention to me!” And I may or may not apologize to inanimate objects when I run into them … but that’s a different story πŸ˜‰

Haha yes, although I do apologize to my teddy bear if I neglect him for too long. He gets lonely easily. πŸ™‚

You hit the nail on the proverbial head here!

    1. Cubby's avatar

Can the nail be hit anywhere else? I’ve always wondered…

well if you miss you usually hit your finger

    So, essentially C-Bear and Jamal?

    1. Cubby's avatar

I had no idea what you were referring to until I looked it up. My teddy bear is not as magical as C-Bear as he requires me to help him create the magic whereas it looks like C-Bear is completely independent. Hence the title “It Takes Two”. πŸ™‚
