You could do dubstep music like Skrillex too! lol I have had the same problem though, I can’t sing. Being a lyric writer/poet has the bonus effect of having time to be able to put out new material more often though. Musicians tend to be limited in what record labels will publish, both in number of songs and which songs, where as lyricists can sell as many songs to as many musicians as they want as long as they find buyers, and poets can write and share new material every day without having to spend the extra time of writing good music to go with it, which I think is harder, happens less often/succesfuly and takes much more time than writing legit lyrics/poetry like “your calling” takes. In the end, after thinking about it, I found I preferred being a poet/lyricist over the idea of finding the fame I might with having a good singing voice.
I was using the singing/lyrics more in a metaphorical sense as I have almost always known my singing voice is barely mediocre, but you make very good points about the differences between lyricists and musicians. I believe that when we have a strong passion for something we can find an outlet for it in some way that is compatible with our own talents. Translating it into a viable career can be, however, very challenging.

I figured it might be the Gifs. And if you’re experiencing it, I’m assuming others are. I know Baldy has an older computer that might run into problems. If it’s still causing your browser to crash/freeze, let me know. I’ve already learned that my blog is loading slower than it should be by testing loading times. I liked this because it resonates on so many levels.I love drama but i’m a lousy actor, I think, but I found my niche as a director, so even like in your case you are still connected to music, me to drama, I wanted to be in a band but that never happened either. Its true what you say that one day you wake up and do hear a voice telling you that some of your dreams will stay just that, because you have a different calling.Great that your work connected so well for me.
I’m so glad this connected for you as I was using it to portray that there are possibilities within one’s passion that one can pursue that may be better suited to one’s talents. Being hung up on the idea of being something specific, like a singer, can make a person blind to other venues for their passion. I have a fine singing voice. Unfortunately only peacocks and flatulent seagulls ever appreciate it.

I absolutely LOVE this!!! And, though I just sing for my own pleasure, I’d always wanted to write actual songs….but I can’t play an instrument or read music. Words, well, lyrics if you like, I can do. 🙂 Judging from the comments you hit a responsive chord!

This was just one example. Some people love movies and want to be an actor but realize that they would make better directors. We must all try to pursue our passion in a way that utilizes the talents that we have. 🙂

You ARE singing– just not with your voice. I always wanted to be a dancer and still, 40 years later, try to work out steps from videos and fail. So I try to dance with words.
Dancing with words is such a delightful thing to do. And you also paint, which is another form of dancing. All of the ways that you express yourself are beautiful. 🙂

Nice poem, Stay Frosty, you are the lyrics, and I´m the eye that is privileged to read them.
I catch them all with my teeth, which is no easy feat considering all the whiskers. I felt like I should retitle the poem “Fishing” once I saw the comments. I try to stay warm, not frosty, although I do like frosty treats. Mmmm frosty treats… *drools*
Stay Frosty…it´s a name that I coined from a guy in the U.S Marines. From Seargent. Brad Colbert, I read the book Generation Kill, before I enlisted in the army or during, can´t remember.
Two powerful words meaning: stay cool,be alert,have all your senses working at their peek and perform your job at your maximum ability as you have been trained for.
It translates to the civilian world though. Plus I like the sound of it really, that´s why I use it.
It does have a silver ring to it. Thanks for explaining its origin to me. 🙂

I found this poem especially beautiful. I was never encouraged to sing — had ballet lessons instead — while my brother was “the musician” I was eventually pushed into art — which I was happy about — but I always wrote poems and nobody stopped me there.
I’m glad you were pushed in a direction that you could be happy with. If anyone did try to stop you from writing poems, I would ask that person to cut off their hands and see what it feels like. I greatly appreciate your comment and am so glad you liked this. 🙂

LOL! You can’t imagine how many people have been disappointed by the fact that I can’t sing a whit. Not being the singer doesn’t mean we don’t have the rhythm and the words that make a song worth singing. There is a line in a Roger Water’s song (It’s a Miracle) about what happens to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s fingers… he wrote Cats… you could do it a thousand times better 😉
I assume you mean because I am a cat that I could write about cats better as it makes no sense to me in any other context. My version would have a lot of cats lazing around catching sunbeams and grooming themselves. There would be very little singing involved. 😛
