In Da Club

A dog once asked a cat to dance,
He knew this kitty loved to prance,
But kitty said, “Oh no, I can’t
Go dance with you. The way you pant,
You’ll slobber on my gorgeous fur
And bark too loud. Why can’t you purr?
You’ll step on all my kitty feet,
And then you’ll want a doggy treat.
Not to be blunt, but dog, you stink;
It makes me want to hork my drink.
So no, I will not dance with you,
But prancing? Yes, that I can do.”

And so the kitty pranced away
With nothing more she had to say
While doggy scratched his left behind
And thought, Okay, then never mind.

  1. This captures dog and cat “personalities” so well! I have seen many adorable pictures and videos online of cats and dogs cuddling and being “sociable,” but many more showing cats’ disdain of dogs. (most recently, a compilation of cats taking over their doggy housemates’ beds while the dogs end up on the floor or in the cats’ too-small beds!) Charming poem!

    1. Ooo I must look for that video of cats taking over doggy beds! Cats understand how hierarchies work all too well. πŸ™‚

  2. What a cute poem. So easy to read and then want to read again. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so happy it is re-readable. πŸ™‚

  3. Lovely. I can see the poor dog’s bemused expression. Lollygagging after flirtatious kitty. ‘Personalities’ so well caught. :)x

    Have a lovely weekend!

    1. I love that word…lollygagging. What a scrumptious word that is! πŸ™‚

    1. Cats tend to be princesses and a little stuck up hehe. πŸ™‚

  7. Aww, poor doggie… I’ll dance with you!

    1. Doggie would be more than happy to dance with you! πŸ™‚

  8. Have a wonderful weekend, Dear Friend. Really enjoyed this poem!!

    1. I’m so glad you did! πŸ™‚

  9. Fun way to start the day! Have fun!

    1. It was fun, but I’m glad to be back home. πŸ™‚

  10. Fantastical and creative storytelling, I loved it and I was smilling all the way while reading it, which is something that is very rare to expirience nowadays, so THANK YOU! πŸ™‚

    1. Aw, that is so sweet. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. πŸ™‚

  11. Cubby, this one brought smile to my face. You captured
the personalities of these two domesticated animals so well. It reminds me of my own cats and dog. And what you said at the end is precious about being out for one week: ”
Hope you all have a FANTABULUS weekend!”
    See you next week…

  12. Big smile…perfect description of dogs and cats. I’m with the kitty all the way. Love this. So much fun and so sweet and delicate but the cat, as always, is FREE and chooses never to do anything that does not please her. Meoooooooooow and oh YEAH. Excellent. Have fun wherever you are going πŸ™‚

    1. There is so much to learn from cats hehe. I did have fun, but it is nice to be back home. πŸ™‚

  13. Love this, I can just imagine the dogs expression. Cats do act all superior. You have really captured their natures well done again Cubby x

    1. The funny thing about cats is that even though they act all superior, they are quite low maintenance compared to dogs hehe. πŸ™‚

  14. LOL! I see your cat bias has shown its face:D

    1. I know I would love a dog if I ever got to know one, but for now, I’m all about cats. πŸ™‚

  15. It was a favor that the handsome dog did
By asking the cat to dance.
But the cat thought only of her fur and feet
    And missed the great chance.

Cubby, you wrote a lovely poem, but have a little mercy on the dog… hahaha! I prefer dogs over cats.

    1. LOL what an awesome reply! Let us call it mercy that the dog did not have to dance with a haughty little cat. πŸ™‚

  16. Thank you! I laughed the whole way through!!! πŸ™‚

    1. I’m glad it made you laugh! πŸ™‚

  17. Oh dear, so accurate.

  18. LMAO. BWAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA… Perfect. This is exactly what it sounds like in da club (I love that title…but now I have a 50 Cent song stuck in my head… :/).

    1. I think you are one of the few people who got that reference. Perhaps if I had written “dawg” instead of “dog”… πŸ˜‰

  19. Love it! made me laugh. There is a cat that sits in the middle of the road where I live and tempts tibby and charlie everyday. The cat knows the gate is shut and they (tibby and charlie) can not get out. It is almost as though the cat is laughing at them. Tempting teasing them

    1. I think some cats have a bit of a sadistic streak in them lol. πŸ™‚

    1. Furry friends can be the best kinds of friends! πŸ™‚

  21. A laugh coaxed out by your talented musings! Love it! Purrrrfect personification!

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! πŸ™‚

  22. Reblogged this on The Iridescent Bubble and commented:
Brilliant personification of da beasties! Have a look. It’ll leave you purring.

  23. WOW! Nice Poetic Narrative..

  24. Great poem. At least the doggie knows how to handle rejection πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, the doggie is very easygoing! πŸ™‚

  25. Your poem made me giggle πŸ˜› and inspired me to continue the tale

    As Kitty pranced
    So satisfied
    She wiggled her hips
    From side to side
    And in a glance
    She spotted her prey
    A handsome feline
    With fur so grey
    As she approached
    And batted her eyes
    She began to purr
    And she surmised
    That he would feel lucky
    To be approached
    By a creature so regal
    With a strut just so
One fleeting look and she could tell
    She tapped his shoulder
    He turned around
She said, β€œWhat brings you here?”
    You sure look nice.”
But he himself did not think twice
    He raised his paw
    As if to halt her
    Said, β€œPlease, Kitty,
    Do not bother.”
    β€œI have no interest
    In a Kitty so aloof
    Could never purr
    For the likes of you

    1. ROFL that is hilarious! You turned kitty’s haughtiness right back on her. So purrrfect. Love your sequel! πŸ™‚

      1. I am so glad you enjoyed it! I think I’ll call it, “The Tale of two Tails.” πŸ˜›

  26. Love it! Made me laugh. πŸ™‚

    1. I’m very happy it made you laugh! πŸ™‚

  27. Ah…loved the poem, and don’t know how I managed to miss it! WAh, the lovely arrogance of some kitties! I could just see that cat walk off with tail high as a pole!!

  28. Lovely! This reminds me of the ballad of Barbara Allen πŸ™‚

  29. lmao…slobber boxes!! Have a lovely Thanksgiving Miss Kitty!!! πŸ™‚
