I Own the Night

I own the night,
A restless bird in flight
During daylight hours
Far too bright
That pierce into
My mind and fight
The wisps of dreams
That cannot go
Against the stream
Of heaven’s glow
Until the darkness
Creeps back in
And then my thoughts
Can finally spin
Into these whispered
Words I write,
But whispers fade
Into the light.

    “And then my thoughts
    Can finally spin
    Into these whispered
Words I write,” – what a beautiful line! Loved your take! 💕

  2. What a brilliant take and yes Sonya, night belongs to you so are such magical words ❤️❤️thank you for taking the challenge

    1. And thank you for challenging me. 🙂

  3. Your poetry is so beautiful! I also really love your blog design, it’s incredibly beautiful.

    1. That is such a kind and gracious thing to say. Thank you so much. Your words are very much appreciated. 🙂

Yes Sonja. Your words flow so easily 💜🌼

  5. I am rather new to WordPress, but I really look forward to reading your poems every day. Thank you.

    1. You have no idea how much that lifts my spirit. Thank you so much for your heartening words, and I hope your experience on WordPress is a happy and fulfilling one. 🙂

  6. I just love the way you spin one line onto the other. Such eloquent flow. I love it.

    1. Aw, that’s very kind of you. Thank you. 🙂

  7. Hi Cubby! Beautiful poem! I used to follow you when I was on WP as “awomandsaved” and would do your challenges! My name is Deborah and back then I had a cat named Lily. You suddenly left and then I left for awhile but when I came back to WP as “awisewomansjourney” I tried to follow you again but your site was private. When you liked my poem today I was so happy to see you are back! I have one problem, I am on Windows 10 now and there are no “Like” or “Follow” buttons. Could you tell me how I can follow you? Much Love, Deborah

    1. I believe if you scroll up a little on the blog, a follow button will pop up in the bottom right corner of the screen. At least, it does for me.

I had no idea it was you when I read your poem, but the name rang familiar. I definitely remember you now that I know your previous name, and it gladdens my heart that you still remember me as well.

Here is to reuniting with familiar souls and writing to our heart’s content! 🎉

      1. Amen to reuniting! I learned a lot about poetry from your challenges, and look forward to learning more! ❤ 😀 !

        1. Lol well I will see what I can do 🙂

  8. Reblogged this on Starry Night and commented:
This is so beautifully written!!! 😍

  9. Your words will echo in my mind…

  10. Charlee: “Hey how about that, around here, we own the night too!”
Chaplin: “That’s because we’re cats so we see better in the dark than anybody else.”

  11. I love when your imagination soars. You’re amazing.

    1. *head explodes*

Excessive praise is not good for my health. 🙂

      1. Obviously not if it makes your head explode. Sorry. Shan’t happen again.

        1. Lol nothing to be sorry about. It grows back. 🙂

  12. I can relate…I need the quiet of evening, when all is done, to gather my thoughts to write. Lately, though, a bad cold has kept me from even READING. I need to be in the right frame of mind to appreciate and digest the words.

    1. I hope you are feeling better. I like eating lots of chicken noodle soup and huddling into a cozy blanket when I am sick.

    1. You are so kind and gracious with your comments. Your words are very much appreciated. Thank you! 🙂
