Unwanted Role

One day a gift
Was sent to me
With contents which
Were mystery,
A box with filigree
And gold
Along with note
Stating in bold
That I could
Never open it,
Not even just
A little bit,
For if I tried
I would regret
And with great pain
I’d be beset.
Well, this is not
A gift I want,
I thought, most
Certainly a taunt,
Just begging me
To look inside,
I wonder what
There is to hide.
Still, I became
Somewhat distressed
To think of such
A strict behest
That though it ate
Me to the bone,
I did my best
And left alone
The golden box
That called my name,
No role I’d have
To take the blame.
I thought it best
To send it back
In case it opened
Just a crack,
So I returned
The box to her,
Back to Pandora,
The sender.

I got a gift like that once, only it had been set on fire and left on my doorstep.

All those charming neighboring kids you made friends with, no doubt.

Actually I think it was from my father.

I love it! It’s sorta like a preview (idk the actual term lol) to the old story; very creative=D

Hehe glad you liked it. I guess it’s kind of like a prologue, but not really since the old story started even before Pandora initially received the box, but I don’t know what the term for something extra stuck in the middle is either…midologue?
