Where There Be None

When you see no roads before you
And hopelessness begun,
Keep marching forward stubbornly
With hope where there be none.

When hope has flown too far to reach
And pain you can’t outrun,
Breathe in the pain then let it go
With faith where there be none.

When faith has hidden in the clouds
And leaves you with no sun,
In open hearts of love will you
See light where there be none.

When light is swallowed in despair
And life feels sadly done,
Have hope and faith to live and love,
And death there will be none.

Not sure i understand the last two lines but I think the rhythm is great. I also like how you structure it; using the word from last line of above section in the first line of the next, it links well together as a beautiful flow of thoughts πŸ™‚

The last 2 lines can be interpreted in several different ways:
      1. There will be no death as in suicide when you have hope and faith to live and love.
      2. There will be no death of the spirit while you are alive when you have the above attributes.
      3. There will be no death of the attributes themselves.
      4. There will be no death of God within your heart.

I thought it was possibly number 2 on your list but I just wasn’t sure πŸ™‚

Glorious. To address the hopelessness of a life with out faith or love; and to that, I praise the God Almighty for so perfectly providing a way for us to rest in these things. You Know the Light of Truth, and for that, I applaud your recognition of this.

I don’t see much good formal poetry these days. The structure, the rhythm, the rhymeβ€”they all were well done, and I could almost hear it accompanied by music as I read. Beautifully lyrical. I really enjoyed it; thanks for sharing these words with the world. πŸ˜€

Like fibee5, I had a bit of trouble with the last stanzaβ€”but not the two final lines. Rather, the one just before it; ‘and life you would be done’ doesn’t sound right to my ears, but maybe it’s just me.

Thank you for your kind words. After careful consideration of the line you mentioned, I decided to change it to “And life feels like it’s done”. I take the feedback offered me very seriously and appreciate the time you took to offer it. πŸ™‚

I think that was the perfect change. It flows so well. Again, it really is a beautiful piece.

Thank you for letting me know what didn’t work for you. I know sometimes people are afraid of saying what they do not like for fear of offending, but ego must be sacrificed for the sake of betterment. πŸ™‚

It works on so many levels. I see it as keeping on with the often difficult job of life against all odds for there is a higher purpose and unending life. Absolutely beautiful Cubby. You seem to garner gems from everywhere. x

This is a poem to put on my pillow! Very well said…the only thing I know to overcome blue days it to plod on believe that the sun will come out again. Sometimes a friend’s kind words will shake the mirky waters and so some light infiltrates and sometimes it can be a photograph of some pinquins. Great poem and very wise.

Thanks Bastet. My heart was feeling heavy after reading some dark things, and I felt compelled to write this.

I’m sorry you had dark news. This is the changing of the season and things are more difficult until the change is complete. I hope you are happier today.
