The Truth (Ghazal)

When I knew not the truth,
I had not sought the truth.

I learned I had to go
To school and bought the truth.

All lies, they said they were,
Things I’d once thought the truth.

I struggled with my faith
And proudly fought the truth.

Many times in my life
I had forgot the truth.

In learning how to love,
I learned to spot the truth.

In words that I now write
To you I’ve brought the truth.

It’s deeply in our hearts
That we are taught the truth.

If you would like to submit a ghazal to add to the ghazal challenge post, please let me know and I would be honored to add your ghazal and/or link to it. 🙂

    1. Once is more than enough for me…as long as you don’t change your mind in between. 🙂

  2. Great Poem! There is a lot of truth in the last several lines. While we are learning how to love, we spot the truth and you have brought us the truth.

  6. Gee…I was proud of myself to have done just ONE ghazal/challenge, and here you have fired off a third and VERY good one! I don’t think that’ll shame me into trying another, though…my rut is just too comfortable to leave!

    1. Everyone’s truth is slightly different, but I think we can all find the truth somewhere in our hearts. 🙂

  9. This, to me, is the missed understanding of so many. The truth, the solid rock, which we should all abide by is Love. If we truly loved each other, whether Christian, Jewish, Islam, Buddhist, etc., or not religious at all, Love is the answer. With simple love, we can all learn to take care of each other as family, community, nation, and world. We can also understand compassion for animals and look into their eyes and see the love, unconditional, they have for us, and the trust. It doesn’t take a religion to be right or to solve the world problems, it takes love. For those who are Christian, it was the first and one continuous thing Christ taught: to love one another.

    1. Yes, I believe that love is the language of universal truth. There would be no boundaries or borders if we all spoke this same language. Thank you for your lovely words and meaningful message.
