Bullies, bullies everywhere,
No longer just a school affair
For into cyberspace they’ve gone,
Their faces hidden with a yawn
While posting pictures of someone
To laugh at just because it’s fun,
Or texting messages all day
With words that they would never say,
Not caring if it’s wrong or right,
Though most would run from a REAL fight –
Because they can, because you laugh,
Because you “like” on their behalf,
Because it’s cool and not just mean
When done from a cowardly screen,
While someone cries and drowns in pain,

Well said Cubby, as you know this is a subject close to my heart. I have wrote several things on bullying. This poem is direct and flows beautifully. I think directness is important in issues like this. Oh btw i loved it can you tell lol

This is absolutely perfect! I think this ought to be circulated…it points out the shame of the perpetrator and of the ones who encourage him/her by their responses. too much is said about the tragedy that can befall the victim without pointing out how the bullying is encouraged in today’s world.
It was Oliana’s idea to tackle cyberbullying from this angle, which I think is brilliant. I just tried to put into words what she wanted me to convey as coherently as possible. 🙂

Maybe just a wee brain. A teeny tiny itty bitty brain shared by cyberbullies everywhere.
A hind brain…in their bums.
Kids are not only crying they are actually dying because of this kind of bullying. I like the above words from Jamborobyn, Art in Action. Let’s do it and get it out there.
Yes, it is tragic that they are dying from such a cowardly act. I refrained from using stronger language as Oliana said even the words “shut up” raised protest from parents. Art in Action is a wonderful call to artists everywhere to try to make a difference with the skills they possess.
Excellent poem, Cubby. School was brutal enough 15-20 years ago when I was a student. I can’t imagine how much more painful it is for so many today in this age of social media.
Yes, before you knew who the bullies were, but now it could be anyone with access to the internet. It is horrifying to think how easily hate is propagated.
This should be printed out onto thousands of cards and distributed in schools. It is within range of most age groups and conveys the message so well. Love the idea of Art in Action as a vehicle for education. Applause – Cubby and Oliana. x

A very bad problem…Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I don’t have much to do with social (?) communities, but from what I can see, this is something everyone should become aware.
I think it is a problem that is faced predominantly by the newer generation who grew up immersed in social media. The effects can be devastating. Increased awareness will hopefully help curb at least the spread of cyberbullying.
I think, unfortunately, that it was only a question of time until bullying, which is so present in the “real world” became a problem in cyberspace. I often wonder when we will leave off our more primitive nature and move towards a more “human” nature. Basically, we still tend to act like our not so distant cousins in many of our characteristics…the breast beating beasty is still very much alive inside of us. I’ll think something up to participate too…at least we can try to be “human” ourselves.
On a lighter note…I wrote the mermaid fairy tale 😉
A matter of time…how sad but true. Though change can be quick, evolution is slow. Will be at your blog right after I grab a drink. 🙂

It is scary how just because it is written on the screen many bullies don’t actually think it is ‘bullying’! It is definitely ‘Cowardly’. It is definitely bullying. Well written and true!
People tend to excuse themselves of poor behavior when they know there is no way they can be held accountable for it. Really brings out the worst in people. Glad you thought it was written well. 🙂

I can really relate to this on many levels.
I was a victim of bullying since I was little to all the way from the end of middle school.
So pretty much half of my childhood life.
I was close to committing suicide, but one man change my life forever.
Trent Reznor of (Nine Inch Nails) changed my life and stopped me from doing harm to myself. That and poetry also saved my life.
I know what it feels like to dig your own grave.
I know what its like to feel a gun pressed to your head.
It’s a scary place…and you wrote this anti-bully poem so well. I hate bullies with a hateful passion. Someone should evaporate bullies like insects.

and thank you for listening to my suffering. I still get traumatized every now and then. When I see someone get bullied I defend people and I get angry like “The Hulk”.
Angry like The Hulk sounds a little scary, but understandable when you see someone suffering the same things you went through. It is a shame bullying is still so prevalent and can adopt new methods so easily.

One of these days, I’m going to write a blog about anti-bullying and give all of my friends the suffering I went through and I will use it as a positive change and the use and methods of poetry and expressing themselves. I think it would be a good idea. You’ve inspired me to write it and it will take me a while. 🙂

There is something wrong with our culture, these days, for people to want to inflict pain on someone either in person or via the web. I believe they are true cowards.
Yes, they are cowards who should be working on resolving their own issues but instead mask their insecurities, confusion, and ignorance in acts of cruelty, causing issues for others as well in the process. It is a vicious cycle.
