Night Whispers

The night will softly speak
In whispers of the dark
As nightingales usurp
The songs of morning lark,
But even in the day
There are whispers of the night
In echoes that it leaves
In shadows chasing light.

  1. So beautiful to wake up to this morning. Well done!!

  2. Beautiful, I loved the nightingale part 😀

    1. I think you are very similar to the nightingale in how they sing so beautifully in the dark.

      1. You can say me, the word, the bird, the concept, the metaphor and the song knew each other in a land that does not exist anymore 🙂

  3. Whenever my mind tickles I try to scratch it with a knitting needle up my nose.

    1. That sounds about right. 😛

  4. Excellent piece. I love the last stanza. =)

  5. I love the way this flowed 🙂 Absolutely beautiful 🙂

    1. Ah, you are too kind. Glad you liked it. 🙂

      1. I certainly did like it! 🙂

  6. Gentle and endearing. Gorgeous.

    1. Thank you kindly. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

  7. nice 🙂
but what exactly the night is going to say 😛 😀
    really good one 🙂

    1. It’s asking for a PB&J sandwich.

      1. hahah 😀 bon appetit 😀

  8. Oh boy ! Great stuff. Reminds me of Walter de la Mare

    1. I’m embarrassed at how little I know of the classical poets. I looked him up and read some of his poems, and I am very flattered that my writing would in any way remind you of his work. I’m so glad you enjoy my work. 🙂

  9. Ah so true, though I sometimes think, that the shadows are more sinister as they cheat the light. But of course the moon and stars cheat the night of it’s shadows, as does man! Lovely peom, makes you reflect (no puns intended 😉 )

    1. Shadows do not cheat.
      Instead, they simply eat
Any light that comes their way,
      Or else they would decay.

      1. Sorry about the delay
        much to my dismay!
alas my mind is in a whirl
and the rhymes they just swirl..
will get back to you soon
        to sing another tune…I hope.

  10. Night is just a dream
    Songs are filled in mind
    whispers are the wishes
we chase to get a shine
    it echoes inside our heart
    to get a new start
to end the darkness of night
    With a sun shining bright

    1. If night is a dream,
      Well then it would seem
      The day is asleep
      And sunshine would keep
      Its whispers to chase
      And echoes erase
      The wishes of light
      That start in the night.

      1. Night has many stars twinkling in delight.Day is always awake sun makes no mistakes 😉 whispers are wishes they have their way to chase us,like resonating echoes each time each day.

        1. Wonderful! Thank you for the delightful impromptu poems! 🙂

          1. your poem is inspiring 🙂

  11. Love this, it flows so naturally beautiful

  12. Love this! The peaceful night sounds bring back memories of teenage sleepovers at a friend’s farm where the night sounds were of nearby cows and whip-poor-wills

    1. When I imagine the night sounds of nearby cows, having been born and raised in the city, it makes me laugh to think of their sounds as peaceful. But compared to the roaring of cars, I think their mooing would be much nicer. 🙂

      1. oh, yes! MUCH more peaceful!

  13. Very beautiful, Cubby! Great job 🙂

  14. I like this. Reminds a bit of Laura Veir’s song “Nightingale”!

    1. Now I want to go and listen to her song! Glad you liked it. 🙂

  15. Reblogged this on Unzip These Lips and commented:
    Beautiful write 👍

  16. “in echoes that it leaves” good god that was simply incredible. the whole poem is just beautiful Cubby! I don’t think you realize how good you are… have you published or tried to publish your stuff? the poem in itself is wonderful, but the thought it evokes is soo much deeper. or maybe I’m just reading more into it, but it could be applied to many situations, not just shadows… you remind me of those poets we had to study in school because everything they wrote had several meanings!!! 🙂

    1. I wanted this poem to evoke thought and stir up people’s imaginations. I am currently trying to get some children’s stuff published, but it looks like it will be a long road. Rhyming poems are not “in vogue” right now when it comes to adult poetry, so I won’t be bothered with the rejection letters from them just yet. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support. It is truly deeply appreciated. 🙂

      1. have you thought about doing E-online publishing?? I think some people upload them somehow, I know someone I can check with, and then just charge a dollar or two to read them on their kindle’s or phone…??? it doesn’t sound like much profit, but it adds up quickly when sooo many people are online…and I don’t think it costs much at all to put them out there…

        1. The online route is definitely a possibility sometime in the future. 🙂

          1. go for it!!! there is no future, it doesn’t exist except in your mind!!! 🙂

  17. True, fabulous and beautiful.

    1. As are many of the things you write as well. 🙂

  18. It transported me to a magical garden. Thank you x

    1. Thank you for your kind words. 🙂

  19. I love this one Cubby. It makes me think that the reverse can be true – in light chasing shadows. One inhabits the other, perhaps at all times.

You are a gift, that brings a smile, each and everyday!

    1. Aw, you are too sweet. It might be the cat in me that makes me want to chase everything. I’m glad you enjoyed this one. 🙂

  20. This brought forth some wonderful imagery in my mind. Great piece! I love the contrast.

    1. Many thanks. I’m so glad you liked it. 🙂

  21. “But even in the day
There are whispers of the night
    In echoes that it leaves
    In shadows chasing light.”….

this is my favorite part. Very creative and beautiful (yes, kats like poetry)!

  22. I love the imagery of this poem, Cubby! The last line is such a wonderful ending.

    1. Thanks Miranda! I like to chase things. 🙂

  23. the only word that comes to mind after reading this is…gorgeous!

    1. That is too kind. I’m so glad you think so. 🙂

  24. The rhythm of your poems are always perfect. Love reading your poems out loud.

    xoxo

    1. Haha not always perfect. I had to take out an entire middle stanza after it was published for this one to feel “right” to me. Glad you liked this. 🙂

      1. Really, now? Well, your readers don’t notice. Hahaha… you know what they say: the only one who can tell something’s wrong with your composition is you – the artist. xD

        1. If only that were true for everything! Lol 🙂

    1. Many thanks. So glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

  25. A very peaceful poem.

  26. Hi cubby. Thank you for liking my poem. ‘ Warriors!’ Best Wishes, The Foureyed Poet.

  27. I like this. It’s very earthy.

    1. I like that description! Thank you kindly. 🙂

  28. When I’d just about given up hope …
