Perfecting Creation

If I had the power of creation,
Strength borrowed from the essence of the earth,
I would listen to the beat of every heart
And feel the pain of every death and birth.

I’d taste the lonely tears that fall from heaven
To quench the thirsts below that never die;
I’d comprehend the reasons for the suffering
And all the answers to the baffling why.

The desire to create a perfect world
Would lessen as I start to understand
That beauty isn’t in the earth’s perfection
But in its frailty and will to stand.

Thank you to those who participated in the Prompt: Creation. I loved reading all of them and hope you enjoyed the creation process as much as I loved the results. πŸ™‚

    Beautiful Sonja and somehow hopeful. Would you consider posting it for the Poet By Day Prompt? The prompt is about compassion. Take a look. The prompt just came out and you have a week. πŸ’—

      I looked at the submission guidelines. I don’t think my writing style would be a good fit for them based on the examples that they gave of the type of poetry they like. I appreciate the suggestion! πŸ™‚

        ? It’s just an exercise Its ok lol They accept any style. No biggie …πŸ˜πŸ‘

      I was using the wrong exercise. The one I was suggesting is about the environment.

    So touching in its depth.

    I love this:

    Feels like it should be set to music xx

    Finding redemption through understanding tragedy. The Ancient Greeks would approve.

      There cannot be one without the other. Life strives towards balance, but balance does not mean harmony.

        I just happened to be reading Wordsworth’s Intimations of Immortality just now and came across these very relevant and beautiful lines:

        Though nothing can bring back the hour
        Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
        We will grieve not, rather find
        Strength in what remains behind;
        In the primal sympathy
        Which having been must ever be;
        In the soothing thoughts that spring
        Out of human suffering…

        …Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
        Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
        To me the meanest flower that blows can give
        Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.

          Ah what breathtaking verse. Thank you for sharing those beautiful lines with me. πŸ™‚

    I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty. Edgar Allan Poe

    Beautifully well expressed my friend. πŸ™‚

    Nicely done, Cubby. “…the power of creation” may be best left to something better than ourselves or even alone. Love it!

    You are amazing, Cubs. I started working on a poem for this prompt, but it’s not nearly as good as yours. I’ll post it, if I’m not too intimidated by the amazing poem I just read and reread. That’s why I try not to read the other submissions before I write mine.

    1. Cubby's avatar

      You have a wonderful style of writing that you should be proud of. No one else can write quite like you. πŸ™‚

      1. Nobbinmaug's avatar

        Thank you. See? Somehow you took a compliment on your beautiful poem and turned it into a compliment for me. This is about how good your poem is.
