When Galaxies Cry

When galaxies cry,
The tears that they shed
Are showers of light
We see overhead
That leave us in awe
As we touch our cheeks,
Speechless but listening
When radiance speaks.

So gaze at the sky
When stars shoot above
And hear as they make
Their statements of love,
For they long to be heard
In the vacuum of space,
Stardrops streaming down
A celestial face.

I love the image of the stars being a galaxy’s tears… very jealous I didn’t think of that! Wonderful.

I have never seen shooting stars or a meteor shower, but I imagine it would be a breathtaking scene. You have insanely good ideas all the time. Usually, mine are just insane. 😀

Don’t start all the silly stuff again – you’re supremely talented.

I’m not comfortable with excessive praise. It makes me feel like sticking my head in the ground like an ostrich.

          1. Simon's avatar

I know exactly what you mean, really I do.

I agree, I love galactic metaphor and have written many pieces of art using celestial verbiage; however, when I read “When galaxies cry, the tears they shed are showers of light”….my mouth dropped. Literally…that imagery was beautiful. This is a very well written piece of art. Clap clap snap snap. This is definitely a favorite.

Thank you very kindly. It makes me very happy that you enjoyed this as much as you did. 🙂

oh yeah of course I read this one. It’s so good! I really like the rhyme scheme and how you played with the words. But “Please” definitely had me riveted.

    1. Cubby's avatar

Yeah, that one hits close to home for me.

I don’t know why, but Zelda – The Mask of Majora spring to mind. There’s a bit in that where you have to poke the moon in the eye with your telescope, and it sheds a moontear.

    1. Cubby's avatar

Aha that’s awesome. I would cry too if someone poked my eye with a telescope though.. and then punch whoever did it.

      1. Brian Hughes's avatar

Well, the moon gets its own back by flattening the entire city. It’s all bit weird really.

I like your style of writing. Some free verse poems leave me feeling very baffled and dissatisfied, but yours make beautiful sense to me, and I am completely satisfied when I am finished reading. I’m glad you enjoyed this poem. 🙂

I have read so much breathtaking poetry from others that I am ashamed of my little pitiful attempts. Words fail me when trying to describe how moved I am by this poem!

    Thank you for sharing!

    1. Cubby's avatar

You write of meaningful social issues that help to educate, enlighten, and inspire others. How is this pitiful or something to be ashamed of? From what I have read, your writing is beautiful and bold, and this is something to be admired and proud of, not ashamed of. 🙂

    “In the vacuum of space
    Stadrops streaming down
    Their celestial face.”

    That concluding stanza was gorgeous!

I just stumbled upon your site after you liked a piece i just wrote and not only do I love your writing, but I was also hoping you could help me with a question; how do you have these comments right below your pieces? On my WordPress the best I’ve managed is this frustrating, half-hidden little link on the side of the page. Sorry to impose my HTML/Wordpress incompetency on you but I thought you might be able to help, as I’m sorta new to the WordPress thing. Thanks, and beautiful poem.

    1. Cubby's avatar

I can see the comment box clearly on your blog when I am on the page for that specific post. Otherwise, when on your main page, it is a half-hidden link and hard to find. The WordPress theme you choose will also affect placement of these things. Hope this helps. 🙂

Love this enchanting poem! Thank you for liking mine. I loved your “philosophy” list, too, and I, also, do quite a bit of “tweaking.” But I know that it’s okay to just let it go, let it be, just as it is. True for everything! Blessed be,
