I think that would be a beautiful story especially if it was written by you.☺️

Definitely something to think about. 🙂

Awesome, Sonya! I am so happy for you. I hope this sells out everwhere. Where do I get an autographed copy?

    1. Cubby's avatar

Thank you so much Nobbin! I asked around to see if I could make a stamp out of one nice signature, and I was told that it wouldn’t be the same, so let me practice my autograph 1000 times before I try to autograph anything. Otherwise, you will think a child scribbled on it.

      1. Nobbinmaug's avatar

I’m pretty sure those stamps are for junk mail use only. That’s way too much practice. By 1000 you’ll be worse than when you started. I know. I can’t read my own handwriting half the time. I write everything on my computer or phone.

        1. Cubby's avatar

I still like to write some things on paper, like mini to-do lists. And by paper I mean sticky notes.

Lol thank you for the grade and trophy! 🙂

      1. Jen's avatar

Awe Cub that wasn’t a grade LOL I loved it totally. Champion story teller 🙂 btw never bought a book on line. Where should I get a paperback or from what store?

        1. Cubby's avatar

You can do a pre-order from Chapters and then pick it up at the store. Otherwise, options in Canada are rather limited other than Amazon. Until bookstores feel like my book is shelf-worthy, my book will only be available online.

          1. Jen's avatar

Ok ty. Um Cub? The snow is moving vertically here. Minus 22 wind chill. Not sure I’m going anywhere LOL 25+ km/h winds……hehe

            1. Cubby's avatar

Ouch! I suggest staying at home wrapped in a nice blanket with a cup of hot cocoa.

              1. Jen's avatar

HOLY COW!! The snow’s dencer I can hardly see across the street OMG lol The Fir trees are swaying like crazy. They have to be 50′ tall at least cause I’m on the 6th floor and I see the tops

                1. Cubby's avatar

Oh wow! That’s crazy. Sit tight and stay snuggled up.

Did you listen to Glenn playing Ravel ? I love Ravel

                    2. Cubby's avatar

Glenn is like a magician playing that piece.

                    3. Jen's avatar

I used to go to that Fran’s Restaurant late at night and imagine I might see him lol Some of the older staff remembered him. Fran’s is gone now. Pavanne is my favourite piece. I’ve been writing with Ravel in the background.

                    4. Cubby's avatar

Sounds like a beautiful place you live in. It’s nice to have some background music. 🙂

It’s just a 1 bedroom old building. Built in the 50’s. But its in a very nice “rich” neighbourhood. Forest Hill. I’m rent contolled lol Lots of old trees 🙂 Listening to Spotify…

                    6. Cubby's avatar

That sounds lovely. Just don’t look outside. 🙂

                    7. Jen's avatar

I can’t help it. LOL I really want to go out. BUT! 🤔

                    8. Jen's avatar

Are you making me the Butt of a joke? 😊

                    9. Cubby's avatar

Well, I was going to say, “that’s a big BUT,” except I was afraid you might say exactly what you just said, so I guess it didn’t make a difference lol 😜

I wish I could do this! I know I could do it, but I do not know how to go about it… Does your site discuss this? Thank you for this darling post! Made me smile 😊

    1. Cubby's avatar

There are a lot of great sites out there that discuss how to self-publish, but my blog is not one of them. I recommend checking out this site: https://justpublishingadvice.com/how-to-publish-a-book-the-right-way-to-reach-more-readers/. You’ll find a wealth of information at this site if you look through it, more than I could ever give you. I’m glad you liked the post. 🙂

How wonderful to get this done. I have the same aspiration and dream. I have written several children’s rhymes I would like to get illustrated and published. It’s wonderful to see someone complete the task.

    1. Cubby's avatar

There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t do it too! If you make it a priority, it will be done. 😉

  36. Faith Allaire's avatar

Aww, thank you so much! 😊💜

  37. Serene Grace's avatar

Wow, congratulations Cubby! I wanted to write children’s books too but gave up because it seemed too difficult to get published. Cool book!

    1. Cubby's avatar

Traditional publishing is a pain. You can’t even send your manuscript to most publishers without an agent, and then most agents won’t even take a look at your work without a spectacular cover letter. It’s much easier to self-publish, although it is a lot more work. You could definitely self-publish as well if you really want to pursue this. 🙂

      1. Serene Grace's avatar

I agree traditional publishing is not the way to go, I took an online course and wanted my $, (quit the course), very cool that you DIY. 🙂

        1. Cubby's avatar

Well, we’ll see how things pan out. 😉

          1. Serene Grace's avatar

Traditional publishing seems like it’s mostly about having connections, well good luck with your book🙂

  38. johnlmalone's avatar

Congratulations! It sounds very exciting. In my previous writing life I have had over 150 children’s poems published in magazines and anthologies. I post them from time to time. ‘Night Driver’ on BigBlueMouth was one. I don’t seem able to write them anymore. Will look for your book 🙂

    1. Cubby's avatar

That’s impressive! I would be happy with having just one, well maybe two, of my poems published in a magazine and/or anthology. I think you would be able to write more children’s poems if you really wanted to, but I know it is difficult to write anything if inspiration is lacking. Thank you so much for your kind words 🙂

      1. johnlmalone's avatar

        thanks also for yours 🙂

I wanted to swing back here and let you know I received my copy of the book and it’s adorable! So well done! And I know just the perfect little boy to gift it to. 🙂

    1. Cubby's avatar

YAY!!! Oh that makes me so happy!

I tried to stick in some subtle and not-so-subtle facts about ostriches too:
      1. Ostriches have no teeth.
      2. They eat pebbles and sand to help them eat.
      3. Ostriches can swim (this is really indirect and probably way too subtle.)
      4. They use their wings to shield their young from the elements.
      5. They really can see far away.
      6. They can kick like kangaroos.
      7. They apparently can roar like a lion.
      8. They do have dinosaur-like feet, with two toes (although some pictures show three toes…kind of confusing).
      9. And of course, they really can’t fly… yet.

If you don’t mind and have the time, I would very much appreciate a review for the book on the site you bought it from. I am having a really hard time getting reviews from people, but I understand that people have much more important things to do hehe. I’m just super happy you enjoyed it! And I am crossing my fingers that the little boy will enjoy it too! 🙂

      1. ebbtide's avatar

I would be happy to! I know what a challenge it can be to get a written review from readers. I bought from B&N so I’ll swing by there tonight and leave a review.

        1. Cubby's avatar

Aww thank you so much! Your time and effort are very much appreciated. 😊🌸💜

        2. Cubby's avatar

I just saw the review at B&N and wanted to thank you so much for your lovely words. 💖✨🌹

  44. rue202's avatar

Cool! Congrats! Hey, I’m looking at possibly publishing my stories using Kindle. May you please give me a general idea of the publishing/editing and such costs publishing my stories using Kindle?

    1. Cubby's avatar

This is from the KDP site:
“KDP prints your book on demand and subtracts your printing costs from your royalties. That means you don’t have to pay any costs upfront or carry any inventory.”

      https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834340

I don’t know how much editing would cost as my children’s books are simple enough for me to edit myself.

From what I have read and experienced with Kindle, the real cost comes not from the publishing itself but from the marketing that comes afterward, which I lack the experience to tell you much about.

Please let me know when you have published your book! 🙂

      1. rue202's avatar

So with publishing on Kindle, does the author do any editing themselves?
        Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I guess the marketing would cost a lot of money.
        Will do 🙂

        1. Cubby's avatar

As far as I know with publishing platforms like KDP, authors do all the editing themselves if they are self-publishing unless they hire someone to edit for them.

  45. ebbtide's avatar

I just have to give you an update on this book. The little man who received it loves it and his mother tells me that his new favorite phrase is “no cheetahs allowed!” So even though I liked it, it also passed the three year old boy test. 🙂

    1. Cubby's avatar

Thank you so much for letting me know! I am so happy he liked it. 😊🌸💜
